    3. The National Library of Wales has as part of its on line services a database dealing with crime and punishment. The Crime and Punishment database comprises data about crimes, criminals and punishments included in the gaol files of the Court of Great Sessions in Wales from 1730 until its abolition in 1830. You can search this site using all sorts of criteria, including the accused, the crime, and the prosecutor. I am wondering whether anyone can help me with the following: There are instances where the prosecutor is the victim, and in many if not most cases the prosecutor does not appear to have been in the legal profession. For instance: 23 November 1788 - John Morris of the Parish Llawhaden in the County Pembroke, a Cordwainer was accused of breaking and entering prosecutor's house and stealing money. The prosecutor was William Gambold, of Llawhaden, a leathercutter. How did the legal system function at this time? What was the criteria for prosecutors, did they need a certain level of education or something? Any help much appreciated. 1. FARRANT Family - Pembroke Dock and surrounds - Help.
    2. MARK KIRBY
    3. Dear Pembroke Listers, I hope very much that someone will be able to help me in my quest to trace my friends FARRANT family. I am afraid we know very little and so need a helping hand to get started. Peter Haydn FARRANT was born in 1929 in Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He is now deceased but his son is trying to trace the family and doesn't even know his grandparents names!! However, it is believe the family was from the Pembroke area for at least a couple of generations before that... If anyone knows of FARRANT connections in the area or if you can trace FARRANTs for me whom we might later link to the modern generation I would be much obliged. Thanking you in advance. Regards Mark Kirby

    1. Help needed with DAVIES, REES
    2. Hi, I'm trying to find the births of my gg grandparents, William DAVIES and Martha Hire REES. I recently received their marriage certificate stating they were married in the Parish of St Thomas on October 1, 1840. William would have been born about 1819 and Martha about 1820. William was from Martin's Bridge or Martin's Vale (not sure if they are the same place) and Martha's residence in 1840 was Haverfordwest. They had four children William T. Davies (1842), Jane Ellen (1842), Martha (1847), & Mary Ann (1851). I show William T. being baptised at St Ishmael's and Jane Ellen being baptised at St Thomas. Is anyone familiar with this family or can anyone offer me any advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sheila

    3. Dear Rhian, I looked up our previous correspondence on your family. As John Tucker of St. Twinnells married Anne Hall at Stackpole Elidor in 1825, have you a special reason to rule out St. Twinnells as their possible place of residence afterwards? I could not find any Tucker wills for St. Twinnells or Stackpole Elidor in my limited index. A Llewellin Tucker married in 1757 at Pembroke St. Mary and appears to have had a will proved in 1776 at Pembroke, Pembrokeshire and a Margaret Tucker's will was proved in 1799 at the same place. As this is not too far away from the areas of your interest, you might consider purchasing the will abstracts from Pemb. Records Office at Haverfordwest to see if any persons named in those wills can show family connections. Half-a-dozen Hall males married at Stackpole Elidor between 1728 and 1809, if their names interest you. Bettye Kirkwood, Australia. There were a John Stephens, aged 25-29, blacksmith and an Ann Stephens aged 20-24 in Castlemartin (ref HO107/1443/3, Castlemartin, folio 4, page 3). I wonder whether this was them, having left James with his maternal grandparents in Narberth? (The James mentioned above was at ref HO107/1448/18 or 19, Narberth, folio 25, page 10.) Do you have Joseph's birth certificate or marriage certificate and does the information about his father match the above? I would hazard a guess that John and Ann married in Narberth between 1837 and 1840. No John Stephens marriage in Narberth or Castlemartin Hundreds in the 1813-37 marriage index. Gerry Lewis

    2. MADELEINE BERKS
    3. Hello everyone. I am not getting very far with my Golding search at all. A William Golding has a painting hanging in Tenby Museum. It is dated 1799. In 1777 a Ralph Golding , also a painter was born. I think that they were one and the same person.Maybe Ralph signed his pictures 'William'. A William Golding Married Jane - something or the other- in 1815. Later there were boys born who were given the middle name of 'Gowland'. Could William's wife been a 'Gowland' before marriage. Any thing on Goldings in Haverfordwest; Abegavenny, and Monmouthshire in general would be of great interest to me. Thanks a lot. Madeleine
