    3. The latest Rootsweb letter has mention of a substantial update in the Free BMD. I checked into the site and ran a search, finding a couple possibilities. Question - how does one actually get any specific information beyond a name, very general location, and very general date? Thanks, Elida in SC, USA 23 degrees F. last night - set a record in Coastal SC.

    3. Hello Edwina, In Major Francis Jones yellow book for Pembrokeshire are listings for Charles. One is at Henllys, Llanrhian. In 1845 the Bishopric of St. Davids owned the property and it comprised 194 acres, tenanted by Thomas Roch. Later it was bought by the Charles family. It is now owned by Gwilym Charles. Torbant, Llanrhian, was owned in 1842 by the Revd. Richard Davies, Archdeacon of Brecon. In recent times it belonged to Captain Cecil Charles. Trewallter Lwyd, Mathry, was home in the late 19th century to Thomas Charles, father of Joseph John Charles who was father of Ethel Charles, wife of Major Francis Jones. In the Major's red book for Carmarthenshire there there are six listings for Charles. If you'd like this information, let me know. Regards, Elaine.

    1. [WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE] CHARLES FAMILY; 1871 CENSUS
    2. Winnie
    3. Hello Listers, I'm new to this list & hope someone can help me. Someone recently found my Charles family in the 1881 Census, all but my great-grandfather, George CHARLES. His wife Anne (THOMAS) CHARLES, a widow, & children Clara, George (my grandfather), & William, along with a lodger were found in St Marys Pembroke Wales on Market St. Is it possible for SKS to look for them in the 1871 Census? I'm trying to find out when George died. And is there anyone else researching this line? I think grandfather came to the US late 1800's or early 1900's. He ended up in Bronx NY & worked as a Brass Moulder. Any ideas on what that is exactly? The family was separated during the Depression & I know so little about them. I did meet a 2nd cousin from Canada briefly in the 1940's (perhaps during the war?) whose name was William CHARLES. He was in the RCAF. It would be wonderful to find some cousins. I thank you for any help available! Edwina Charles in Calif

    2. elaine barsosky
    3. Hi David, >From Major Francis Jones "Historic Houses of Pembrokeshire and Their Families": LOVESTON, St. Twynells. This was a double piled farmstead about half a mile south of St. Twynells church; to the east is Merrion, to the west is Sampson Cross. For two centuries it was the home of gentry families including in 1545 Thomas Watkin. His wife was Joan Adams of Paterchurch and he had two daughters, co-heiresses, with her...Elizabeth who married Thomas Adams who lived at Loveston till his death in 1605. He left a son Thomas who died in 1626. The other co-heiress was Margaret who married in 1545 Griffith White of Henllan, who died in 1590 leaving a son, Thomas White of Loveston in 1604. In 1680 Mary White paid five hearth taxes which indicates a commodious structure. After the Whites came the Leach family. Henry Leach (1700-1787) was followed by his son Abraham Leach of Loveston, who also bought Corston and that became the family's chief residence. Afterward Loveston was let to farming tenants. Regards, Elaine.

    1. [WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE] NARBETT, PHILLIPS etc
    2. Hello Pembrokeshire listers, I'm new to this list and am posting my interests to see if anyone recognises these surnames: NARBETT, JOHN, PHILLIPS, COUZENS, COUSINS. My great grandparents David Narbett & Annie Phillips were married in Newport, Mon, 5 Sept 1885 but both came from Pembrokeshire. Annie b Llangwm in 1858 & David b Camrose 17 Aug 1861. David Narbett's parents were James Narbett b 26 Oct 1815 in Woodstock & Sophia John. They were married in New Moat 16 Nov 1837. Annie Phillips' parents were Henry Phillips & Sarah Couzens from Llangwm/Freystrop. I don't know Pembrokeshire at all and have not yet done much work on this branch of the family. I'd be grateful for information on any census indexes or transcripts that may exist. Best regards, Ruth

    1. [WLS-PEMBROKESHIRE] Hitchins (or Hitchings) Family 1800 -1850
    2. John DeVault
    3. I am look for information on the Hitchins (or Hitchings) Family of Pembrokshire, Wales. I believe the name may have originally been Hitchings, but most of the information that I can find in United States records have Hitchins. The information that I have is: Owen E. Hitchins was born on May 25, 1831 in Bristol Channel, Pembrokshire, Wales; he married Elizabeth Jeffries, also of Wales; he and his wife immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1852. Adam E. Hitchins was born on September 20, 1833, in Pembrokshire, Wales; and he immigrated to the United States in 1854. I believe that they had a brother Roger Hitchins born on March 1, 1827; and a brother John Hitchins born in 1838. I am also searching for information on a James Hitchins born on March 20, 1846, and who died on December 23, 1899 in the State of Maryland, U.S.A. I am not sure if James is related to Adam and Owen, though I have been told by some of my relatives that he was, and others that he was not. Any information on any of the persons listed above will be greatly appreciated. Thank You John DeVault Frostburg, Maryland, U.S.A.

    2. Jack Willis
    3. As a new member to this list I am trying to trace the parents of my G.grandfather William OWEN who was born in Pembroke in1835. Perhaps someone with access to the 1851 census could tell me if he shows up on that census. He was a shoemaker by trade and was married to Amelia PRATT in Merthyr Tydfil in 1865. Is there anyone researching the OWEN family who can maybe help me? Jack Willis , B.C. Canada.
