Hello from downunder. Would sks please be able to tell me if a Thomas Lloyd Jones born abt 1835 shows up in the 1841 census or 1851 census, for this area.I have purchased the census for other areas of the uk in Australia with Aussie dollars, but the exchange rate as it is at the moment prevents me purchasing more,I have the 1781-2 militia musters for Pembrokeshire and the 1881 census too,if I can reciprocate someones kind help Veronica on a beautiful Autumn day in Australia
I'm glad to see the activity on this list. I also have hopes of learning from others who are searching in the same area. Just in case, I have the first generation coming from Pembrokeshire as John and Elizabeth JAMES in 1711, 'tho John's father is listed as James LEWIS or Lewis JAMES in different places. Any connections? Sally

It's been a while since my last posting. Researching siblings of Amelia THOMAS born 1822 in Pembroke to Thomas THOMAS. Also researching siblings and parents of William PHILLIPS born 1819 in Boulston to Thomas PHILLIPS. William married Amelia in 1842 and had the following children Sarah 1845, Fanny 1848, Arthur 1849, Ann 1851 Shirley McGowan sjmac@cableone.net
I understand that it was rootsweb admininstrators who wanted county lists. Trouble is, our ancestors moved in and out of counties, especially Pembrokeshire, Carmarthen and Cardigan. My own ancestors seemed to be in a different county for each generation. The reason you got help is because many experienced and knowlegeable Welsh genealogists subscribe to all the lists. My interest in Pembrokeshire is the area of Manordeifi. I am looking for the birth or baptism of David MORRIS in Manordeifi about 1798 or in Whitechurch about 1807. I am trying to find the right David MORRIS, father of James MORRIS. James was born in Manordeifi about 1834. David MORRIS is on the 1851 Census for Whitechurch aged 53 years. His wife, Ann is aged 50 years. The David MORRIS on the 1881 Census for Manordeifi is aged 74 years. His wife is Ann, aged 74. A David MORRIS married Ann Davies on 1 Nov 1827 in Llandygwyg, Manordeifi. My problem is finding out if these three entries are for the same David MORRIS. The age differences between the 1851 record at Whitechurch and the 1881 record at Manordeifi makes me think that it is not the same person. So if there are any other David MORRIS records for Manordeifi and area, I would be interested in hearing about them. Kate
I'm a subscriber, but reading between the lines I've gotten the feeling that this fairly new list is not really wanted by many who have been accustomed to wider ranging lists (those covering some combined areas in regions). Being familiar with individualized rootsweb lists in the USA I'm hoping this list catches on! Roger, I have found your Benjamin (aged 77) & Elizabeth (aged 80) Priest on the 1881 Census. I also came across another Benjamin (aged 34) and his wife and family, living at 6, The Cottages. The elder Benjamin was a country blacksmith, the younger a colliery blacksmith. I live a mile or two from Broadmoor and pass by these addresses daily. There are still some cottages in Broadmoor. Note that Broadmoor is a hamlet in its own right. The elder family are listed in the 1881 Census two entries away from the 'Cross Inn' a public house, still in business, and standing at the xroads where the A477 (St. Clears to Pembroke Dock road) bisects the village. Hope this is of some help to you. Allan
Anyone researching VOYLE in Pembrokeshire/anywhere? Noel Thomas
Roger asked <It would be interesting to know how many subscribe to this list as it is very quiet. There are 128 subs on this list, 445 on Dyfed and 64 on Cardiganshire . Dyfed still carries most traffic but all three are relatively quiet. Gareth List Administrator for Dyfed, CGN & PEM. Would anyone be kind enough to do an 1851 look-up for me. I'm looking for Thomas CHILDS. I have a Thomas CHILDS located in 3 parishes. I obviously am unsure which one is my Thomas. The parishes are: Steynton Pembrokeshire Amroth Pembrokeshire Marloes Pembrokeshire Thank you. Kind regards, Jacqueline Chiles Beach OH, USA
Dear Jacqueline, There are many CHILDS in the Pembrokeshire Marriages 1813-37. Do you think the name may have been changed a bit? There are NO CHILES. In Rowlands "The Surnames Of Wales" Childs nor Chiles appears. Regards, Elaine.
Hi Everyone, Listers may be interested to know I've just uploaded a new set of "Images of Wales" photographs onto my website, featuring the old parish church at Crunwear (Cronwern), South Pembrokeshire. Select "Images of Wales, Main Feature" from the "Short Cuts" link at the top of my WFHA homepage at the URL below. Hello, Would anyone have any knowledge of CHILDS/CHILES living in Pembrokeshire? My gr.gr grandfather Thomas CHILES b. 1846 immigrated to Ohio, USA, in 1863. The census reports state he was born in Wales. Any suggestions on where to look for him? Thank you. Sincerely Jacqueline Chiles Beach
Hello listers, I am a new & inexperienced lister looking for very early family connections in Pembrokeshire, specifically around the Robeston Wathen area. I received a leaflet from the ancient church there which mentions my family (WATHEN). (I have until now been researching my family in Gloucestershire, where they were prominent in the wool weaving industry.) The leaflet indicates the family moved from West Wales to Glos.at the time of Queen Elizabeth 1 because of their connection to the wool trade. Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to locate any of those early Welsh ancestors please? Or alternatively someonewho knows the name & how I can contact the person who wrote the leaflet for the church? I don't know where to begin looking. The last known ancestor I have uncovered is Jonathan Wathen who died in Glos. in 1630. I have not yet discovered his date & place of birth. Maybe he is "the missing link" & was the one who left Wales. IGI has given me some early Wathen names from the late 1500s. How does one make connections? I would be grateful for any help. Hi Have just joined the list, which seems quiet at the moment, should I have joined Dyfed? Gt. Grandmother Mary PREST was born Pembroke 1836, father Benjamin. At some stage family moved to Sheffield, where Benjamin was a Blacksmith. Think Mary had brother James born 1841, Beggelly. Anybody know anything of this family please Roger Lewis
Just to let you know that I have now completed one of the most onerous aspects of building up the Genuki site for Pembrokeshire which is producing a place name index, must be just short of a thousand names I think. The Gazetteer does not *necessarily* indicate the parish a particular place is in, just that the name appears in some context on a parish page. But if anyone spots that I have placed a reference on the wrong parish page please let me know, I started this exercise from scratch not knowing one end of Pem from the other , I have a better idea now but no where near perfect :-) http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/PEM/Gazetteer.html Gareth List Administrator for Dyfed, CGN & PEM.
