Hello Rosalie, You may already have this information...in case you do not. In Major Francis Jones "Historic Houses of Pembrokeshire and Their Families" he shows Wathens at TALBENNY HALL, Talbenny, owned by Adam Wathen, gent., in 1797. In 1805 James Wathen was of Middle Hasguard and Adam Wathen was of Talbenny Hall. By 1834 William Cole was owner. The houses he shows at Robeston Wathan are GREAT CANASTON and ROBESTON WATHAN HOUSE. Regards, Elaine.
Hi Sally, Sorry...Major Francis Jones wrote "Historic Houses Of Pembrokeshire and Their Families" (yellow book), "Historic Carmarthenshire Homes and Their Families" (red book), and "Historic Cardiganshire Homes and Their Families" (blue book). I'm on Gareth's help page for lookups from all the above, plus others. Regards, Elaine.
Sally or Noel, Did you receive an explanation about these colored books? I'm kind of a newbie about Wales research too! Hello Gareth, Point taken re private replies. I must say that I agree with you, even though I have been guilty of giving private replies myself. Maureen Jenkins
The practice of sending list queries to the sender *only* is one that occurs on all lists that I am on, including those covering Dyfed. For the sake of saying so, if we do this then several things may happen; <other listers are deprived of the opportunity to read/digest it, and ask supplementaries perhaps, so a thread doesn't develop. <if a response off list is incomplete or even incorrect then someone gets mislead. We are all capable of gettting it wrong on occasion, I personally take comfort that someone will pick up on any of my blunders ! <the list appears to be unresponsive, and suffers for it when new listers leave having got the wrong impression of how helpful a list really is. Or are inhibited from asking at all if other people apparently don't get a reply. I could go on and on but I think the point is made :-) Gareth List Administrator for Dyfed, CGN & PEM. I know I said list is quiet, but only twice have I requested information and have had helpful replies each time. Cannot say same for other lists though Roger Lewis

JEMIMA NICHOLAS (1750-1832) is famously associated with Fishguard from the time of the 1797 attempted French invasion. Jemima's historic involvement is described in various books but I am trying to discover more about her life and family background. However, to date I have not been able to find anything published . Could anyone provide information - for example, was Jemima born NICHOLAS or was this her married name. Finally, any mention of children or other family members. Her burial at Fishguard is known and mention of her as a tall stout woman working as a shoemaker is also recorded. However, nothing is published on her family links in the various books and enquire if she has ever featured in any list members family tree. Your suggestions and help would be appreciated. Kenneth

Hello Noel, I don't research the surname Voyle; however, I can tell you that Major Francis Jones yellow book for Pembrokeshire shows Voyles at Colston, Cwmwdig, East Moor, Newgale, Philbeach, St. Elvis and Underdown. If you'd like information on the Voyle families at any/all of the above, let me know. The Major's red book for Carmarthenshire also shows the Voyle family of Gilfach y Mynydd. Regards, Elaine.

Hi All Although this list is quiet, I have discovered my LARGEST family link on this list. My long lost Canadian line sent a message and I replied with her tree! We are both VERY happy with the list and the tree is coming on nicely! THANK YOU!!!!! Maxine ______________________ www.videomajic.demon.co.uk
