    3. Hello Janetann Davies. Hope you'll forgive me for diving in . . . In your reply to Barry Francis re his Howell family of Nantgwyn Farm, you indicate you have connections in Llanfairnantygof parish. I wonder if you have ever come across my 2ggrandfather, who was of that parish at the time of his marriage in 1818 at Henry's Moat church to Sarah Phillips of Farthings Hook. His name was uncommon for N Pembs, so you may recall it if you saw it whilst searching for your own family. He was James McLaren, b.Scotland (possibly Scone, Perthshire) and a steward, aged c27, at the time of the marriage. I assume he was employed on the Trecwn estate but I know not his parents' names, nor anything of his origins - and of course would dearly like to. After marriage, he soon turned to farming and is to be found, successively, at farms at Ambleston, New Moat, Rosemarket and Steynton parishes in the county. He was buried in Steynton churchyard in 1852, aged 61. He had 12 children, one of whom - another James, who also had 12 children and also farmed in Pembs, before eventually settling in Cardiganshire - was my paternal grandmother's father. The elder James appears to have emigrated to Pembs alone - his parents are not shown as witnesses to his marriage and I assume they remained in Scotland. His origins have long eluded me, so any information on his early life I would welcome gratefully. Thank you in anticipation, David Lloyd Rugby UK

    3. Hello Jan There are quite a lot of Goodridge families around and several Georges. In your description you have quite a few "we think" so I'll start off with one family. There isn't a family in Lambston parish so I am starting with a family with parents Thomas and Anne and a son George and in 1841. The ages and some names don't fit with your data so let's see if we can work out whether to eliminate this family straightaway or keep as a possible. then I will go through some of the other which fit in different ways but not in others and we can see which is the best. Can you tell me the source of some of the facts you have given and which of them you are most certain of. Where was Grosvenor Goodridge born? Bye for now Pat 1841 census: Johnston parish folio 004 page 003 Thomas Gudridge 45 Ag lab Y Anne Gudridge 40 Y George Gudridge 7 Y Harriett Gudridge 10 Y William Gudridge 9 Y There is also a John Goodridge aged 18 working as a M.S in the household of Thomas and Mary Bowen and family a few doors away. 2. BJ & LC Kirkwood
    3. Dear Jan, You don't need to find someone else researching a family to obtain help from this List, though I hope Kevin was able to give you lots of information. (When the Cricket is showing on Aussie t.v., sorry, you wait a day or two). The following may help you find out more. You give George Goodridge's birth as around 1825 and that his suspected father's name was Thomas. A Thomas "Goodrich" married Elizabeth Lloyd at Cosheston on 28th. December, 1817...the minister may have erred when writing the surname. You could purchase the parish register entry from Haverfordwest Records Office to see how and if Thomas signed the register. A John Goodrich married at Llanstadwell in 1817 and a David Goodridge married Sarah Davies at Rosemarket on 22/07/1815...the next Goodridge marriage listed in the index is for 1828....not for a Thomas. What makes you think the family members were born in Narberth? The name does not appear in the pre-1813 marriage records for this Hundred, but, rather, in Rhos Hundred. Also you give a 32 years gap between the births of Thomas's siblings...Does this mean his father had two marriages, otherwise the wife would be having children from age 15 to about 45, realistically? John was said to be born Llangwm 1803...and the only Llangwm marriage listed for his possible parents is for a John Goodridge in 1787 to Sarah Phillips. John Goodridge may have married Jane Herbert at St. Mary's H/west on 12/05/1828 or Anne Emment at Rosemarket on 29/03/1834, or be the JG who was a mariner and married Elizabeth Davies at Tenby on 01/11/1835. David born about 1815 might possibly be the David Goodridge who married Mary John of Prendergast at Rudbaxton on 15/07/1834. For the previous generation....Stephen Goodridge married Hester Jones at Haverfordwest St. Martin in 1808 and William Goodrich married Elizabeth Gwinne at Rosemarket in 1810. There is no marriage listed for a Dorothy pre-1813, but a Mary and a Sarah married at Llangwm in the early 1800's. There appear to be only two Goodridge Wills pre-1858 for Richard of Monkton in 1613 and William of Cosheston in 1612. Haverfordwest Records Office could look at the St. David's Probate index sheets for the name for you, to ascertain if there are any Bonds, Grants or Inventories held at The National Library, but if you wish you could order copies of the abstracts for these two wills from the Records Office from dates I have supplied here. 3. Bettye, Thanks so much for all this fascinating information! Nice to know my interest in languages could potentially stem from distant foreign connections! Thanks also for the suggestions - I shall certainly look into the St Davids Probate Index sheets when I get a chance. Before I can do much with the COLES I need to find out my Hannah's parents. I see that there's apparently no Narberth index available from Dyfed FHS for her birthdate (approx 1785-1791) and I just wondered whether you or anyone else knew whether an index exists for this time? Or perhaps I can ask Pembrokeshire Record Office to do a 5-year search if they do that? Thanks again for all the help you've been able to give me, both with COLEs and MORGANs - my father was thrilled with his Christmas present including these details. Cate

    3. For now, Griffith Jenkin remains unconnected to anyone I know, but he sounds like someone to keep an eye on. Pat's idea on The Mote sounds just right, though. I'm sorry it wasn't likely of any help to your Mote research. I don't have the marriage certificate you asked about, but the man with the Web site -- Shon Edwards -- has agreed to send me a copy when he returns from his extended vacation. According to his Web site, the address mentioned in the marriage certificate is at Penquerr, Ilston, West Glam. Family group sheet for one of the children later born in Llanelly lists the home at Cevencaiau at time of his birth, which I assume is Cefncaeau just east of Llanelly. James worked as a coal filler. What information are you hoping to get from the certificate? Thanks to everyone who responded. Even if nothing immediate comes of it, I'm grateful for everyone's interest in helping. 3. Hello Bettye , Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. It is very interesting, one point that I noted about the mention of the Coles being from France. There is a family story (I know, we all have tons of these :-), that says our Phillips lot were from Brittany, but could have been the Cole side, or maybe both. Thanks again Bettye for posting this All the best Sue Martin
