Have quite a collection of embroidered greetings cards from the WWI era (under Memorabilia) Also a few unusual non-local historic items under Miscellaneous. I'm happy to expand the latter section should anyone without a site want a showcase for some special treasure that would be of general interest to others. Don't worry about the non obvious site, google et al will pick them up soon enough. Can some wise kind soul advise me WHERE I might find out whether this info is correct or just "family gossip"! - and where I can now lock my father as he seems to be remembering things (he's 70) regards Melanie

    3. Hi Lea It's Llangiwg parish in Glamorgan, spelled in English, Llanguick(e). See this Genuki page for more details of the parish http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Llangiwg/ Gallynag would be the farm name etc, and is possibly Gellyneg, not that I know it particularly. I have some Llangiwg material if you want to try me with a lookup. Armed with that information you should be able to find John and Jane's marriage certificate which will give both their fathers' names. The gap between James (1855) and Charles (1862) may indicate that John's marriage to Jane might have been his second. Gerry Lewis

    1. [WLS-PEM] JENKINS, WATTS and MORRIS of Pembrokeshire
    2. James Evans
    3. Dear List, I'm back on the trail of my elusive Pembrokeshire ancestors: 1) William JENKINS married Maria WATTS in Haverfordwest in 1823. They moved to Tredegar, Mon. in about 1825/6 where their son James - my direct ancestor - was born. William was a shoemaker/cordwainer born in Haverfordwest in the early 1800s(according to the census) and Maria is said to have been born in Fishguard in the late 1790s although I have found no information about either of their births as yet - I thought that finding a Maria Watts would be easy compared to trying to identify a Mary Jones! 2) David MORRIS, born in 'Pembrokeshire' per the Monmouthshire 1851 census - no more detail is given - married Mary (nee MORRIS, b. 'Cardiganshire') between about 1825 and 1830. No suitable marriage of a David MORRIS to a Mary MORRIS has been found anywhere in Wales, nor do I appear to have much chance of finding their births sometime in the first decade of the 19th century with just their counties of birth. Any suggestions are therefore welcome. Best wishes James Phillips-Evans

    3. Hello Gareth, I do have a couple of photos here of my Griffiths relatives taken outside their house. They ran the Bentlass Ferry from about 1890ish, I "think" the photo was taken in the late 1890's. Let me know if you are interested in a copy, one of them does have a good shot of the whole front of the house. All the best Sue Martin

    1. Re: [WLS-PEM] Bentlass, Near Hundleton.
    2. Hi Gareth Bentlass Ferry is mentioned on Pages 64 and 76 of Phil Carradice's The Book of Pembroke Dock. Pembroke Dock Library should have a copy as they were given a presentation copy. The ferry from Bentlass to Pennar was used by workers in the dockyard who lived in outlying villages In February 1889 the ferry capsized and 14 women and a boatman wre drowned. They were going to the Dockyard gates to collect their mens Friday pay packet so that they could shop in Pembroke Dock Market before returning to their homes in Monkton, Castlemartin and other villages in that area. Mrs Peters in The History of Pembroke Dock PP151/2 gives a slightly diffferent account. According to her two men and seven market-women were drowned. No doubt the local newspapers will have an account. Bye for now Joy

    3. Hi Sue I'm no authority but from its position in Pem county I'd be surprised if Reberth was in CMN at any time. The only related change of boundary I can find is this parish one from the Lewis extract on the Genuki parish page. "REDBARTH (RYDBERTH), a parish in the hundred of NARBERTH, county of PEMBROKE, SOUTH WALES, 4 miles (N.W.) from Tenby, containing 134 inhabitants. This place was formerly a hamlet in the parish of Carew, from which it has been severed and erected into a distinct parish of itself: it is situated in the south- eastern part of the county, and is of very small extent....." Confusion sometimes arises in the context of registration districts, which has a bearing on censuses too, but according to Genuki there has been no change in Pembroke RD since 1837 http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/ Gareth List administrator for DYFED, CGN & PEM Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Lookup Exchange http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Harvey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 21, 2004 6:40 PM Subject: [WLS-PEM] enumeration districts Help neededplease > Hi, > I am confused.
