Being very new to Wales genealogy, May I ask: 1. how far back do census records go? 2. How far back are there Birth and Marriage records? Two fellow listers in Glam were kind enough to find 1841 Glam Census that gave me info on my GGGrandfather DANIEL REES, b. abt 1785 in Llanarth, CGN and his wife MARGARET ? b. abt 1797 in Cwmystwyth, CGN. Their first child was Elizabeth b abt1830 in Aberystwyth, CGN Their Second was DANIEL b. abt1833 in Aberystwyth, CGN Assuming that they were married abt 1829 or 30, is it possible to find marriage records ? is is possible to find birth records of the children?, and where should I look? Any and all assistance will be appreciated. Rod York, AZ, USA

How far back are there Birth and Marriage records? =============== Dear Rod, 1. The earliest genealogically useful UK census was in 1841. 2. Birth records (and death records) go back to 1837, when the civil registration of these events began. If you are lucky, church records of baptisms, marriages, and burials may go back to the 16th century (where the parish registers have survived). But the situation differs for different parishes. May I suggest you explore the GENUKI website? GENUKI contains lots of information on research methodology and the nature of the records available for genealogical research in the British Isles.
