Joyce, Further to my previous reply, I decided to take a look for any RUSSELL's living in Cardiganshire in the 1881 Census Index. There were only 3 people with that surname, all living in Aberystwyth. I strongly suspect your "Abavardi" is, indeed, Aberystwyth. Perhaps these entries might give you some clues, even though Catherine and, presumably, her parents, had emigrated before 1881. You could search for Catherine's birth certificate in the GRO Indexes for the 4 quarters of 1852 or, alternatively, write to the Supt. Registrar's Office, Aberystwyth (see details/address on GENUKI pages under Civil Registration) and you won't need the GRO index number, in that case.
