Ann, Have you considered they may very well have married within a few *months* of the birth of their first child (i.e., 1867)? When you say you've "tried all the usual web sites", have you tried www.1837online.com ? Alternatively, have you sent to the Supt. Registrar's office covering that area and requested a marriage certificate? Something else to consider -- it wasn't uncommon, by that time, for couples to marry in the Registrar's office, rather than in the parish church or chapel. It would probably help, when ordering a certificate, if you know where Sarah's family lived in 1861 and 1871. Presume you've located them in the census returns?
