When [he] died he left his farm in Cilcennin Parish to his brother Evan DAVIES with many stipulations re descent within the family line. I have heard that a descendent of Evan DAVIES, Anne DAVIES, lived there until 1957 and that the farm had been divided, by her grandfather, into three parts: Esgair-wen, Blaen-yr-esgair, and Blaen-waun. =============== Dear Anna, According to the 1881 census on CD (transcribed by the LDS church): 1. Blaenwaun existed as an 18-acre farm in Cilcennin in 1881. It was then occupied by a REES family. 2. Blaen-yr-esgair (then spelt 'Blaenesger') existed as a 40-acre farm in Cilcennin in 1881. It was then occupied by a MORGANS family. 3. Esgair-wen (then spelt 'Esgerwen') existed as a 26-acre farm in Cilcennin in 1881. It was then occupied by a MORGAN family. You might try the above spellings when following Julie Preston's advice to search the ISYS:web (Minor Databases) on the NLW website. The three farms are also shown separately (as 'Blaen-waun', 'Esgair-wen', and 'Blaen-yr-esgair') both on the 1:10,560-scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1890/91 (on the Old Maps website at www.old-maps.co.uk/), and on the modern 1:25,000-scale Ordnance Survey Explorer map (sheet 199). This evidence suggests that if your story is true, the original farm must have been broken up before 1881 and the resulting farms were no longer occupied by a DAVIES family.
