Have just subscribed to the list and seen the recent messages about Culliford. There is a reference to Frank Culliford in the brief piece about Aberystwyth photographers by Mrs Shirley Williams in Jun 2000 issue of the Journal of CHT Ceredigion, page 113. Mr and Mrs Culliford were neighbours of my Nain and Taid (Mr and Mrs D J Williams) who lived in Henblas, Llanbadarn Fawr. The Cullifords lived in one of two bungalows that had been built in the grounds of Henblas. Although the old house of Henblas, was demolished circa 1966 the bungalows were still there the last time I looked, a couple of years ago - but empty and derelict. I remember Mr Culliford well. He had a jolly round face and distinctive style of dress - always in tweeds and plus-fours, as well as a particular way of speaking. His 'English' accent sounded very posh to us urchins. He was a gentleman in every way and would always greet us children whenever we saw him. He had a very 'rich' voice (which reminds me rather of Donald Sinden) - I can hear him speaking in my mind now - such was the impression he made on me. There is an excellent likeness of Mr Culliford in a group photograph of village worthies taken in 1939 and this is just how I remember him around 1950. This photo is Plate XXVII in E G Bowen's History of Llanbadarn Fawr. I would expect that details of the Cullifords could be verified by a search of the electoral registers of Llanbadarn held at NLW.
