    3. Hello John and the list, including Julie, 1) I am not basing my family history on Hearsay! but sometimes that's all we have to start with. 2)I understand why Julie would think what she does.It did sound like I was dismissive. 3) 1851 records are not always available to people from a different area. 4) I know where the FHLs are,in Cardiff and Merthyr, but I may as well be living the other side of the Globe in regards to a visit to one.For various reasons. 5) I am always prepared to do the legwork myself where and whenever possible.I however have very little spare time. I have not written this in anger, only to try and explain. I do thank you John and Julie and the rest of the list. Richard

    3. Richard, I apologize for misreading your motives. I've been at this for awhile and have encountered that situation many times, so perhaps I've become a bit jaded. Please do consider what I've suggested. Perhaps some of the record offices would be willing to provide some lookups on your behalf. I live in the U.S. (almost the other side of the globe) and have conducted the bulk of my research using the LDS microfilms and have managed to take some of my Welsh lines back to people born in the late 1500's, in some cases, while other lines I'm 'stuck' at about 1800. I am pleased that you've sent for some of the certificates. It would be nice for you to have Samuel DAVIES' death certificate, as well, if you don't already have it. John Ball has shown you that the place Samuel died is the same place I've given you the 1881 Census entry for. I believe you should follow the clues in that census entry to locate everyone in previous (and 1891) returns. I don't know if you've subscribed yet to the Dyfed list, which has been in place for almost 3 years covering the counties of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, and has a greater number of people subscribed at the present time than this new Cardiganshire list. There may be someone who has easy access to a repository or LDS FHC who can help you with some of your lookups. If they use the LDS FHC on a regular basis, they could order the films you need and you could reimburse them for the fee. It's not the same as being able to peruse an entire register for yourself but it might help nail down the actual entries you need. Please let us know when you receive the certificates you've sent for and perhaps we can help you make some progress. Again, my apologies.
