Dewi, Short answer: Yes Long answer: I've usually seen "NK" in the birthplace column but, in this case, the dwelling name must've been unknown or didn't have a name when the enumerator visited. I don't recall ever seeing it used in such a context. I've just performed an advanced search of the LDS transcription of the 1881 census on CD using the key words 'NK' and 'Cardigan'. It found 43 instances, but none of them shows the dwelling as "NK". The NK appears under 'birthplace', or 'occupation', or an individual's name. Dewi, to help us solve this mystery, can you: 1. Quote the full details of the Ysbyty Ystwyth household in which 'Dwelling: NK' appears? 2. Confirm whether you obtained your info from a microfilm of the census enumerator's logbook, or from the LDS CD, or from the LDS on-line census.
