Hello List, Does anyone know any more about a Mary JONES, widow, living at Park, Llanarth in 1881? Or about the inhabitants of Park (a farm of 14 acres, apparently)? Mary was born 1821 in Llanfihangel-Ystrad, the eldest child of Griffith and Margaret JONES. My next sighting of her is in the 1881 census. In between these dates she must have married a Mr Jones and he died. She was the sister of John JONES, Bridgend, Aberystwyth, coal merchant, sometime mayor of Aberystwyth. She was possibly the mother of Lewis JONES, who in the 1881 census was aged 31, coal merchant living at 3, Bridge End Place, Aberystwyth, born Llanarth. (I don't know why they bother with surnames in this part of the world!) Regards Bill Griffith-Jones

Hi Bill, What are some of the place names around it? There is still a Park in Derwengam (Oakford) which is listed as Llanarth in the census. If you send me some names, I will hopefully be able to locate it at least. Regards, Steve.
