    1. [WLS-CARDIGANSHIRE] Banns in Wales

    3. Hi List.. I am after some help or advise. When my ggrandfather was born in 1880 in Llanstrissant there was no father noted on his birth certificate, in the 1881 census he was living with his mother, uncle and grandmother. When he got married around the 1900's he noted a John Davies (same surname as his mothers maiden name), Farmer, deceased. My Grandmother has told me that when ggrandfather was growing up he use to go around and visit his father then living in Cardiff but the name of this father is not know to my grandmother. The story as my Granmother knows it is that Her Grandmother was supposedly engaged to the father but then called it off for some reason, and I was wondering if there is anyway of tracing a engagement of sorts. Were Banns common place in Wales in the late 1870's or Intentions to Marry? I am not sure where this would have taken place...my ggrandfather was born in Llanstrissant, and my gggrandmother was born in Cwmbran (according to the 1881 census). Thank You Nicole (nee JONES) in New Zealand Researching in Wales: Davies, Gill, Howells, Jones, Roberts, Tasker.
