Diolch, John. I enjoyed the Bow Street photos, too. I am reminded of my earliest memory of the place (circa 1960?) when I recall activity around the railway station there which I have long concluded to be connected with bringing in the concrete used to construct Nant-y-moch dam. And then there was the house with the monkey puzzle tree (bizarre and fascinating to a lad, never mind a monkey) --- which, I discovered on my first visit in 30 years this last January, has now sadly gone. And the old hump-back bridge at the north end, at Rhydypennau (now also gone -- and I used to enjoy that -- but there is still a nice one at Clarach!) I note that Bow Street had extensive encampments for the Territorial Army circa 1912, of which I have a number of old photos in a compilation of 250 photos of Aberystwyth and the surrounding district of about that date. OT a bit, sorry! OT a bit, sorry! ================= Dear David, Not at all off topic -- at least, not to me! :o) Does your collection of old photographs include any of Bow Street? And have you considered displaying a selection of your old photos on the web? I'm sure they would be fascinating to many of us with interests in old Cardiganshire. <And then there was the house with the monkey puzzle tree (bizarre and fascinating to a lad, never mind a monkey) --- which, I discovered on my first visit in 30 years this last January, has now sadly gone.> Don't despair David, I have a prize specimen in my garden, as old as me at least, about 80 ft high. And there's plenty of hump back bridges and Army debris around Dartmoor too. :-) Gareth List administrator for DYFED, CGN & PEM Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Lookup Exchange http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html . ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Rowlands" <drowlan1@bigpond.net.au> To: <WLS-CARDIGANSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 8:39 AM Subject: Re: [WLS-CGN] The Village of Bow Street, near Aberystwyth,Cardiganshire > Diolch, John. > > I enjoyed the Bow Street photos, too. > > I am reminded of my earliest memory of the place (circa 1960?) when I recall > activity around the railway station there which I have long concluded to be > connected with bringing in the concrete used to construct Nant-y-moch dam. > > And then there was the house with the monkey puzzle tree (bizarre and > fascinating to a lad, never mind a monkey) --- which, I discovered on my > first visit in 30 years this last January, has now sadly gone. > > And the old hump-back bridge at the north end, at Rhydypennau (now also gone > -- and I used to enjoy that -- but there is still a nice one at Clarach!) > > I note that Bow Street had extensive encampments for the Territorial Army > circa 1912, of which I have a number of old photos in a compilation of 250 > photos of Aberystwyth and the surrounding district of about that date. > > OT a bit, sorry! > > Thanks again > > David > Canberra > > > > Dear Listers, > > > > I've just uploaded a new set of twenty-three 'Images of Wales' pictures > > onto my website. > > > > The feature illustrates a visit I made last June to the village of Bow > > Street, near Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire.
