    1. Re: [WLS-CGN] Molineux / Aberystwyth
    2. Julie Preston
    3. Dewi, No MOLINE(A)UX marriages in this area of Cardiganshire 1813-37. Perhaps someone with access to the rest of the Dyfed Marriages might check the other counties (such as Carmarthen, for instance). From the birth year of 1766 you provided for Mary, I highly doubt she would've had a son in 1827 (Mary age 61), let alone a daughter in 1839 (Mary age 73). Strange, also, that Mary was 30 years older than her husband. Can there be some mistake in the dates you provided? If the couple died in Aberystwyth in 1866 & 1877, they may be buried at St. Michael's, Aberystwyth, or at Llanbadarn Fawr Parish Church. I would expect they'll be buried at the same place their children were baptised. You should locate the family in the 1841, 1851 & 1861 Census returns to find their birthplaces. I would also suggest you look for a will for either/both of them. The IGI also shows additional children for this couple: Another Mary, christened 8 Nov. 1829. Phoebe, chr. 5 Feb. 1832 Ann, chr. 16 Feb. 1834 Amelia Martha, chr. 10 Jan. 1836 Eliza Shelby, chr. 7 Dec. 1841 James Caldwell, chr. 22 Mar. 1843 (perhaps a clue to Mary's maiden name?) Thomas, chr. 8 Jan. 1846 Using the IGI as a tool, only, there seems to have been some concentration of the surname in Llanedi, Carmarthenshire, as well as in Flintshire, in the early 1700's. I believe the census returns are your best route. The LDS have microfilmed these and you can order them from the nearest LDS FHC. 3. Seems timely to remind listers of some basic survival suggestions and list requirements; Aol and freeserve are bouncing Rootsweb mail again today, auto unsubs may follow. If you feel that list mail isn't getting to you please check to see which lists you are still subbed to on http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com Please don't send (re)subscribe messages before doing that, they end up in my mail box if you are still subbed, and please don't send test messages to the lists just to see if the list is still here, they are really boring. Don't open attachments you aren't expecting, even if the subject/apparent sender is familiar, the current virus attack is widespread. Check back with the sender first if in doubt. Keep your anti-virus definitions right up to date, manually today if not done automatically. Don't have the bounce spam facility switched on in Mailwasher or similar, it's a waste of time and potentially counter productive, just delete. 1. Re: [WLS-CGN] Baptism Fiches
    2. Thanks to all for replying so quickly. The reason I asked about Baptism Fiches is because in Suffolk the FHS does a marriage index but the Suffolk Record Office sells copies of BMD fiches from the Suffolk area and I was hoping that may be Cardiganshire Record Office did the same. Which would mean that I could search from home. I have been to the Llanbadarn Fawr website and thought maybe John and Margaret ROBERTS were David's mum & dad but the write up in the 'more about' section doesnt mention David as one of his children. Thank for all the links I have put them in my favourites. I have visited the Look up Exchange but because I have not got much info and not too sure where or how big Ll/Fawr is I wont ask because it seems I might be asking for a miracle. Another clue I might have is my great uncle Bills second name was Killin and if they are like my hubbys ancestors some of them used a maiden name of a mum or nan for their kids. 3. Ann Rhydyfelin is just on the southern edge of Aberystwyth, just beyond Penparcau, going south. If you go to http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and search for Rhydyfelin (and select the one in Ceredigion, because there are others!) you can see it on the map. It is very small and gets only one mention on the Aberystwyth page on GENUKI where a non-conformist chapel is referred to: Goshen [CM c1760 at Rhydyfelin]. See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CGN/Aberystwyth/ David Canberra but once of Aberystwyth! > Please could sks tell me if there is/was a place named Rhydyfelin in CGN, I > have a marriage certificate which says my great great grand mother was living > there before she got married. > Thanks > Ann > Ontario, Canada. > > > ==== WLS-CARDIGANSHIRE Mailing List ==== > Dyfed FHS > http://www.dyfedfhs.org.uk/ >

    3. Ann Do you know why they moved to London or when? Could they have gone somewhere else first? Have you any idea where and when they were married? By the way, I wonder whether John Roberts, carpenter, Llanbadarn Fawr (1851 census) could be David's dad (and your great great grandfather)? There is an older Roberts next door, too. Could be HIS dad! See: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ceredigwynd/llanbfc1851.html There are Roberts memorial inscriptions and much else on this site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ceredigwynd/roberts-memorial.html> David Canberra > Hello > > I am a newcomer to this list but not to family history. > I am looking for my great great grandparents and they are proving to be very > elusive. > > On the 1901 Census my great grandparents state they were born in Aberyswyth, > Cardiganshire. > > They are David Roberts aged 46, Carpenter > Mary Roberts aged 40 > My Granddad Albert Edward Roberts aged 8, born Islington, London. > > So I send for his birth certificate. > Mary Roberts was a JONES. > > Last year I finally found them on the 1891 London Census and it says > > David Roberts aged 34, Carpenter born Llanbadarnfawr, Cardiganshire > Mary Roberts aged 30, born Llanbadarnfawr, Cardiganshire. > > I cannot find either of them on the 1881 Census, I can find lots of David > Roberts and quite a few Marys but none who I can definitely point to and say > they > are mine. > > So if someone out there has access to the 1861 or 1871 Census and can look > these ancestors up and tell me who their parents are I would be a very happy > bunny. > > Its no fun when you have got further with your husbands tree than your own. > > > Thank you > > Ann Taylor nee Roberts > Suffolk > Cardigan FHS No 495 > > > > ==== WLS-CARDIGANSHIRE Mailing List ==== > Dyfed FHS > http://www.dyfedfhs.org.uk/ >

    3. Hi Anne! The village and the Curch take their name from St. Padarn, the saint to whom the Church is dedicated. This magnificent old building once enjoyed almost cathedral status and the parish included the nearby town of Aberystwyth which for many years had only a small chapel (St Michael's) annexed to the parish church of Llanbadarn Fawr. My son and his wife were married there and, last year, on their 10th anniversary, they brough their younger son to St Padarn's for his baptism. If they are not how do I find out about the parish of Llanbadarn fawr? How big is it or was it between 1850 - 1880 and how I would find out where and when my ancestors were born and who their parents were? 1. [WLS-CGN] David ROBERTS - parents?
    2. Hello I am a newcomer to this list but not to family history. I am looking for my great great grandparents and they are proving to be very elusive. On the 1901 Census my great grandparents state they were born in Aberyswyth, Cardiganshire. They are David Roberts aged 46, Carpenter Mary Roberts aged 40 My Granddad Albert Edward Roberts aged 8, born Islington, London. So I send for his birth certificate. Mary Roberts was a JONES. Last year I finally found them on the 1891 London Census and it says David Roberts aged 34, Carpenter born Llanbadarnfawr, Cardiganshire Mary Roberts aged 30, born Llanbadarnfawr, Cardiganshire. I cannot find either of them on the 1881 Census, I can find lots of David Roberts and quite a few Marys but none who I can definitely point to and say they are mine. So if someone out there has access to the 1861 or 1871 Census and can look these ancestors up and tell me who their parents are I would be a very happy bunny. Its no fun when you have got further with your husbands tree than your own. Thank you Ann Taylor nee Roberts Suffolk Cardigan FHS No 495
