    3. Tom, If you're using the GRO indexes, that could be a daunting task. Have you requested a death certificate directly from the appropriate Supt. Registrar's office(s) (i.e., covering St. Dogmael's and Cardigan), based on the address you've found him living in 1851 and based on his occupation (ship carpenter/builder)? They don't need the index numbers and your window (1858-1861) isn't too big -- I would think it would be easy enough to locate the right certificate. 2. I have for some time been searching for the death and burial of my great-great grandfather,DAVID OWEN,who was living at ST DOGMAELS on the 1841 and 1851 censuses, but not the 1861.There is also an indication that he was building ships in CARDIGAN until 1858,so that it appears that he may have died between 1858 and 1861.The death indexes at that time are full of DAVID OWENS dying but wiith no ages showing until 1866,which makes it an expensive task. There is no trace of a will. Any help would be much appreciated. Kind Regards, Tom Morgan

Many Thanks Kim Bewick >>>>>>>>> Hi Everyone Just a quick mail (hopefully) to let you all know of a few changes to the Schools Photographs site. As of today the site has a new name, due to the amount of interest in incorporating other information into the site. It will now be called the UK Schools Interests Site though the URL will not be changing and the main aim of this site will still be collection photographs (of which there are now more than 800). The Look Ups, Requests and Reunions pages are now housed in the UK Schools History Group section of the site (easily accessible from the entrance page). I would ask that you all take a very brief look at the site to see if you have any information that could be included or if you are able to offer any assistance to anyone who is enquiring about schools which may be in your area. There is also a mailing list which is for open for anyone to join with an interest in Schools in the UK. Possibly the most important alteration is the time it now takes to download the images on ! the site. It has been reduced drastically as all photographs have now been altered to thumbnails. This also means that it is now possible to view a larger image than before on most pictures (invaluable especially on photographs of the pupils). Once again though, thank you to everyone for your continued support for this site and the amount of emails I am receiving from people who have found something of interest is wonderful. Kind Regards Kim Bewick www.schoolphotos.f2s.com Listowner for [email protected] To subscribe to the schools list simply send an email to: [email protected] with the word "subscribe" in the body of the mail.

    3. Brian, It's very likely that the pub is still standing, but probably not as a pub. When Aberaeron (notice spelling!) was a thriving little port with a deal of ship building going on in the locality including Aberarth, most of the houses around the harbour were pubs. This meant that there were literally dozens of them, as the trade disappeared, likewise the pubs. We are now down to a measly eleven! Regards, Steve.

    3. I assume this message won't get through to the Dyflist but some of you are also subbed there. The rootsweb server [Lists6] that Dyfed is on has been down since yesterday morning, they then said; ######## The mailing list server LISTS6 is currently out of service and being repaired. The repairs are taking longer than expected and we currently have no time for the completion of this work. Not even a best guess. ########### Just in case you thought you had all been unsubbed in the absence of any list mail. Still no news as to when it will be back I'm afraid. 1. [WLS-CARDIGANSHIRE] Lookup Exchange--what is it ?[Regular reminder]
    2. Gareth
    3. I'd like to start the year off with a reminder of what the Lookup Exchange is all about. The concept is simple, volunteers [listers like you] own /have access to resource material and are prepared to do free lookups on that material. Each LE entry has the volunteer's email address noted next to it, you send your query to that address as per the onsite instructions. There are separate county pages for CMN, CGN, PEM & GLA. Each county page has sections for Parish records, censuses, Memorial Inscriptions, Other Sources, and Books. And links to the relevant FHS and Genuki sites. There is also the All Wales page which covers items not easily allocated to a single county page. Not to forget the One Name Database which as it implies contains material relating to particular surnames. You should check this one out. Underpinning all this is my Help Page which contains general information, advice and links to more of the same as well as details of book Indexing and links to the "Not everyone knows this.." sites. I would ask you all to consider what material you have and check to see whether it is on the relevant page already, and if not, to offer it for lookups. Volunteering in this way is a most enjoyable aspect of net genealogy, give it a try if you don't already. If you do, then my sincere thanks. Gareth List Administrator for Dyfed, CGN & PEM. 3. Jerry, I think you might be misinformed about this list. It is *not* a Lookup site but a discussion/help list for people researching ancestors in Cardiganshire. Materials available for lookups are specifically offered and described on the Lookup Exchange pages. Your latest query falls into the same category as that you posed earlier --- I mentioned the gaps in the Llandysul parish registers and bishop's transcripts and I also mentioned there are no birth indexes from that period. The most that I could offer would be to look for a marriage of Christmas Thomas in that parish. Let me know if you're interested in that, but I would only be able to tell you the year and not whom he married. Regards, Julie Preston [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerald E.
