The University of Manitoba - my employer for 30+ years, has both "Alumni Cantabrigiensis" and "Alumni Oxo.. whatever" (I did take Latin for five years at Birkenhead School but, sad to say, most of it has evaporated from my brain)! Realizing that most clerics of the time were Oxbridge educated, I looked at both the alumni registers. I noted the man you mention, along with MANY other Edward Evans but, seeing nothing about Spratton, Northants, I thought no more about him. I will take another look at the Cambridge records. The pages from the Llanbeblig baptismal registers of which I have copies show: (i) the officiant of the marriage between George AUSTIN and Grace JONES (Jan 2, 1838) at Llanbeblig was Robert Williams, Curate. (ii) between Oct 14 and Dec 8, 1838, only one baptism performed by Edw. Evans, Curate of Spratton, Northants -- that of Elizabeth Mary AUSTIN, my greatgrandmother's older sister. The Vicar at that time seems to have been T. Thomas and the Curate J.P. (maybe R) Morgan. There is one mention of E. Willliams, Officiating Minister, just 3 days before the baptism of my Elizabeth Mary AUSTIN. I do not have records of marriages & deaths in that period but, next time at the Caernarfon records, I'll check: (iii) The officiant at the baptism of my greatgrandmother, Mary Anne AUSTIN, on March 11, 1840, was T. Thomas, Vicar of Llanbeblig. (iv)The officiant at the baptism of Catherina (Kate) AUSTIN, on May 15, 1842, was J.P. MORGAN, Curate. Both he and Robert WILLIAMS, Curate, are found on the same page of the register. Apparently there were two curates at the time. (v) The officiant at the second marriage of Grace AUSTIN (Jones), Mar 19, 1849, was Thomas THOMAS, Vicar of Llanbeblig. So, the latter was Vicar throughout the period of my interest. So, from what I have -- admittedly a small sample of the Llanbeblig records -- Edw. Evans of Spratton, Northants, seems to have performed just one ceremony. That's why I thought perhaps he was a friend of George AUSTIN. Next time I'm in Caernarfon I'll try to look at the Llanbeblig records again just to see if Edw EVANS appears in another ceremony.
