May I thank Arlene and David for their kind responses to my plea. I am currently 'doing it the hard way' trawling through the Liverpool 1861 census where my JONES purportedly came from. Having found a 'possible', I have a marriage in FreeBMD but that was for Bangor, whilst on the census William's POB was Beaumaris. Beaumaris on my map appears not to be far from Bangor but in Anglesey and with Bangor on the mainland this created some doubts in my mind.
