Greetings all on this list. I am new to this list and hope someone can help or turn me in the right direction: I have the following information and would like to trace this family back now in Wales. Thomas Price b c 1645 in Wales who married Maria Baker in the Channel Islands. Thomas Price was originally thought to be from the area Trelech-a'r-Bettw, a little north of Mt. Snowdon Carnarvon (Caernarvon) in Wales. The only clue to the family from which Thomas Price, Founder of the Guernsey Channel Islands branch sprang, is to be gathered from an antique silver seal which he brought with him when he arrived in Guernsey. Below is information off the seal used by Price in the Channel Islands and the later generations. (as mentioned above). Arms. - Argent, a lion rampant, reguard sable. Crest. - A falcon sable, close. Motto. - "Spero" - "I hope" This information from a published book 'Our Kin Genealogicala Sketches, Pedigrees and Arms of Sundry Families 1890' The seal was engraved with the above Arms, crest and motto, the device of the ancient Welsh family of Ap Rhys, of Caernarvon, Wales, whose pedigree extends back six or seven centuries. (I don't have a clue what this means!!) Thomas Price originally came to the Channel Islands travelling with a tutor/companion, (he was possibly a 'remittance man') who after his marriage, settled permanently in Guernsey. The family had an interest in shipping, they survived the Napoleonic invasion and prospered. Can some kind person please help me trace this family of Price/Pryce (I have only seen the spelling as Price). I have not seen the original seal but Matthew Guérin PRICE b c1787 (a Private Banker and married to Caroline, Countess Raphael. ) who was the third great grandson of Thomas PRICE b c1645 gave his son Captain Matthew Price b 1818 a similar seal when he came to Australia in 1852. This is still in the family here. Kind regards Ronnie Bates [email protected] Webpage. http://www.southwest.com.au/~ronnie
