I would suspect he worked the Penhryn Slate Quarry in Bethesda. I'm not at home at the moment, visiting with my mother, but will return and have a look at what census I have and see what I have.. The 1851 census for the parishes of Bethesda are on Genuki. Have you had a look at that site?
