I am a new subscriber to the list ,my name is John Maddocks living in New Zealand .but originally from Liverpool UK,My welsh roots are from my Grandfather John Edward Maddocks born 1873 Denbigh Grace Tope born Bangor1868. Grace,s mother was Jane Ed munds or Edmonds born 1836 +at Bangor or surrounding village ,her parent,s Richard and Alice Griiffith where at Ffrdd Carwfarm near the village of Glasinfryn at the 1851 census. Jane my Great Grandmother was married to a Richard Tope from Totnes Devon in Bangor . There is however some confusion about Jane,s father ie on aBirth Cert he is listed as Richard Edmunds labourer but on the marriage cert for Jane 1863 the father is listed as Edmund Edmund,s Coachman Jane had an elder brotherEdmund , Caernarfon Record office are suggestingthat for some reason Edmund substituted as Jane,s father,the father Richard was still alive ,the marriage was in the Bangor Registry office is this possible ?.One thougt is that there where more thanone Jane Edmund,s born around the 1836 period can any kind person throw any light on this riddle ? as yet I have been unable to check the 1861 census for Bangor There is a JaneEdmund on the1851 census in Bangor who married a Evan Evans in 1858 who could be our Jane .
