Hello I have just joined the list because I have found an ancestor of mine named Hugh Jones who according to the 1861 census was born in Llanberis, North wales circa 1783-93. I have no Knowledge of this area historically or geographically and was wondering if these people would have been Welsh speaking? Also are there any parish registers for the parish church in Llanberis dating back as far as 1783? Are these records available to buy on fiche or cd or via the internet. Hugh was a sawyer and left Wales to live in the Black Country where he raised his family. Was there a general migration of people from this part of Wales to the big urban centres at the end of the 18th century? I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help with these queries or has any connections with the Jones of Llanberis. Jayne Williams
