I recently came across a new feature on Google, which if it develops will prove quite useful in trying to get an idea of locations. It's their map section which is a combination of Google Earth and a street map locater. For those who don't know Google Earth its using satelitte pictures, so with this new feature you can get satelitte pictures overlaid with with street maps. Unfortunately there's not much detail on the rural photos, so where as I can see my flat in London, I can't see any real detail in Wales. Anyway if you are interested in seeing what it's got to offer when you get to the Google front page you will see a button saying "more" follow that link and after that choose maps, and then its fairly intuitie as to what it will do. It is not really a case of no detail in rural areas, there are plenty of rural areas with good resolution coverage and plenty of urban areas with poor coverage. Unfortunately North West Wales is low resolution but they are adding new coverage regularly so sure it will come. I think some of North East Wales has higher resolution. I started some time ago making up a folder of Placemarks for various places associated with my family so that I could give copies to other people interested in the family.
