Hi Ian, Thanks for the reply. I'm still pretty green to all this researching lark and have mostly been looking in census returns and the BMD indexes. I've briefly been on the Gwynedd Archives and National Library of Wales but found them not very 'search friendly'. I'm not sure where I should be looking or what I should expect TBH. My immediate problem lies with a certain 'John PARRY' father and 'John PARRY' son both mariners and both missing of the census returns I have looked at. I've got a lead in the 1901 census and have the son's marriage cert in 1894 and Hugh Street, Bangor as his abode. There seems to be a page or pages missing or something for Hugh Street in the 1891 census which I was hoping was the JP family home as JP senior was deceased on the 1894 marriage cert and I don't have a spouse name. I hoped that finding who bought/sold during these times might shed some light on things, but I'm pretty stuck really :( Thanks again, Mark ----- Original Message ----- From: I Thompson To: WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, August 24, 2006 9:07 AM Subject: [CAE] RE: House sales and purchases Dear Mark, I assume you have tried the Gwynedd Archives and National Library of Wales websites which are very helpful? Denbighshire RO also has an online search engine. Hi Mark, if they were both Mariners, have you tried Reg Davies excellent Welsh Mariners web site? http://www.welshmariners.org.uk/ Even if they are not there, the information given gives an excellent background. Hi Dewi & Susan Thanks for the link Dewi, I've had a look on that site before and there are a couple of John PARRYs on it that could be my guys but finding the concrete links between them is prooving somewhat elusive. I can't even prove that they ARE Welsh or not yet. Family 'word of mouth' is almost impossible and what I have had has been vague to say the least. Susan, Ive tried to look at all the Wales & England available on the ancestry website. I did notice on the mariners site that there was a John PARRY on a boat up in Scotland though and I have never searchem them. I've just gone through the whole of the 1871 England and Wales cesus looking for a 'JP' born 1865 +/-5 with a father 'JP' who was a mariner in the same house and there were only a couple or so. I managed to disprove these as the elder was alive in 1901 census on these occasions. What is interesting is that there was a couple of 'JP's on a boat together in Devon and they hailed from Llandegfan. If they fail I will try to trace every 'JP' born ~1865 +/-5 whos father was not at home in the 1871 census. Back to my orginal idea of looking for house purchases I really don't know what I was expecting there, wills may be the way to go but I'm no wiser how to search for them either. Electoral registers, are these possible do you know? Most of my research is done on the net as it is difficult to get to Archives and alike. The only facts I have to date are (..and bare with me I've never tried to export data before so I'm not sure how this will turn out): John PARRY Name: John PARRY Certificate of Marriage [hard copy], From son John PARRY + Mary Elizabeth PARRY marriage certificate.
