Hello Desiree Which census have you got him in ! Regards Maggi (Blythin)
Hi all, I am searching for the father of the above gentleman. This gentleman was found to be born in Llanystumdwy, Carnaervon and later living with . presumably a stepfather Evan JONES and his mother. There were presumably two children from the stepfather's previous marriage and Thomas and a sister from his own father (or birth father) and another child from the new marriage, younger than Thomas. I am trying to find details on census of Thomas and his family as a unit with his birth father. Any help please. I am visiting Wales later this month and would like to visit the birth place of Thomas and his family's last home together, before he went to New/Rock Ferry. Desiree Canada
Angharad, Seeing that Robert Jonathan was said to have been born at Llanbeblig (Caernarfon) on the 1851 census, I would imagine that he is related to Henry Jonathan, who was a hatter in High Street. There were early Jonathans also living and working as hatters at Beaumaris in the late 18th. Century whom I believe to be the same family. Regards, Keith. ----- Original Message ----- From: <AngharadHolmes@aol.com> To: <WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 01, 2006 10:54 AM Subject: Re: [CAE] RE: Portrait Painter in bangor > Thank you David, this has been very helpful > And a big thank you to everyone who helped me in my quest for more > information on Robert Jonathan, Painter of Bangor. > Angharad > > > ==== WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE Mailing List ==== > Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru The National Library of Wales. Hello, I am new to this list and I need some assistance in looking for some Ancestors. Mary Ann Thorman (or Thurman) was born Waenfawr, Caernarvonshire between 1880-1885. Her Father Richard Thorman Mother Margaret Thorman. I believe Richard and Margaret were born in the same area. I would like to know if Mary Ann had any Siblings, and Margarets maiden name. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Barbara Ann Phillips bphil1@earthlink.net
Thank you David, this has been very helpful And a big thank you to everyone who helped me in my quest for more information on Robert Jonathan, Painter of Bangor. Angharad

As promised, here are the Census details to supplement Arlene's helpful replies. 1841 Bangor: High Street [lower end of High St., near Mount Street] Robert Jonathan, Painter, 30, [Born Bangor] Anne do. 28, " " Elizabeth [Bridgen?], 27, [not born in Bangor] 1851 Bangor: High Street Robert Jonathan, Head, 41, Artist/Painter, b. Llanbeblig Ann " Wife, 40, b. Llandegai This is taken from the GFHS Index so should be checked for accuracy. With the actual Census you can work out where in High Street they lived. John Steegman's 'Portraits in Welsh Houses', Vol.1, North Wales (1957) list over 2000 portraits, but unfortunately none are by Robert Jonathan. Good luck with your research, David -----Original Message----- From: David Price [mailto:davidprice21@tiscali.co.uk] Sent: 29 April 2006 19:55 To: WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: Portrait Painter in bangor Angharad I have an interest in Bangor artists, but although I had seen his name in trade directories, I know nothing of his work. I researched in some detail the life and work of landscape artist Joseph Josiah Dodd, who like Jonathan, lived (briefly c.1860)at Eldon Terrace(near the top of Glanrafon Hill). I see in the GFHS Marriage Index that Robert Jonathan married by licence Anne Roberts at Bangor Cathedral 19 April 1834 (both single otp). I can't see anything about him in Peter Lord's splendid books on Welsh art. At NLW Aberystwyth there is a large card index of Welsh portraits which may give you some information. I'll try to send details of 1841 & 51 tomorrow. David, Have you had any luck with finding them on the 1851 census. I've tried all of Britain and haven't found them, but ancestry.com often makes mistakes. It just seems odd that they are on all but the 1851. Any thoughts? Hello, That is interesting as a possible wife to Richard ROWLANDS was at Caerhun with her parents (he was the miller) in 1881 census - the second church that you mention here could be very interesting as it mentions the Caerhun community - perhaps this is the marriage - are these records also likely to be at Caernarfon? Yes Martin, the other church does sound like the one where the artist is now. Thanks for the visiting tip Maggie! Again, best wishes and thanks to you both. PETER FAMILY PS 'I wonder if this is the New Church in your link - SH77117355' We have just checked this - yes it does look like it's the artist's church and it actually appears to be on Denbigh side near a rare breed's farm. I think that we should follow up the Siloam Baptist Chapel. -----Original Message----- From: Martin Briscoe [mailto:mbriscoe@zetnet.co.uk] Sent: 26 April 2006 22:15 To: WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [CAE] Marriage records for Rowen, Caernarvonshire There were (at least) two churches/chapels in the centre of the village.
