Hi Meirion, You are quite correct of course I should find a relevant old map of the area. I have no idea of the welsh parishes and must admit that I become more confused as the spelling seems to change with each census. Now see that the John Jones I found cannot be mine. Thank you for your help. Hi Cherie, I hope I can help from a geographical and historical point of view. You would be advised to check an atlas for the whereabouts of LLANIESTYN and LLANYMSTUMDWY. The former is approx. 1 1/2 miles from Sarnmellteyrn in Lleyn and the other is in Eifionydd, 2 miles from Criccieth, and they are many miles apart. The latter is renowned for having been the village where David Lloyd George was brought up at the home of his uncle, his father, a schoolmaster having died in Manchester, and leaving a widow and young children. There are other people far more knowledgable than I on the history of LLANNOR. The Rev. Harri Parri of Caernarfon for one and Mr J. Dilwyn Williams, lecturer in history at Bangor University, of Penygroes for another. I hope that you will eventually find what you are looking for. Hi Cherie, Bodvel Hall is included in the 1851 and 1871 census. In both of these Llannor has at least 5 districts but under the 1861 entry only one district is shown plus, the fact that it is headed "Llannor (part of)" which suggests that the other districts are not included or are listed under another parish (which is not uncommon and annoying). There is a Sydney Roberts aged 10 (1851 census) living in Bodvean which is one of the adjoining parishes to Llannor. This may be your Sydna Roberts. Arfor (Criccieth, North Wales)
Cherie, The only place name in Llannor in the 1861 census with any similarity is Bodrel Farm. This could be it. The occupants were Susan Carnegy, family and servants but no Syda (or Sydney or Sidney) Roberts. Cherie Try _www.old-maps.co.uk_ (http://www.old-maps.co.uk) that will show you Llannor; south of Bodvel Hall is Rhyllech - note spelling - to the west of this hamlet is Rhyllech Uchaf the farm which you have mentioned. Good hunting Jude

Can anyone help with the 1861 census information for BODFAL HALL, Llannor please?? I am searching for a Sydna ROBERTS, aged about 20 years, who married a John JONES aged about 21 years on the 14 June 1861 at the Register Office, Pwllheli. On the marriage Sydna gives her residence as BODFAL HALL, Llannor she does not give an occupation but I assume she is a servant. John JONES gives his address as RHYLLACHISAF, Llannor, occupation labourer, I cannot find this address in the 1861 census either. Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks in anticipation. Cherie

Hi, News snippets from the Carnarvon & Denbigh Herald for 1903 have now been added to the "News Room" & "Traders' Obituaries," which can be found in the Miscellaneous Section at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wlsccaer/ Regards, Keith.
Thanks, Susan, Frances probably born after 1840. I have a photo of 'Cousin Ada' and 'Aunt Frances' but can't be sure the photograph was Frances's neice. If so, the photographer was my Gran - Sophia Grace who was a regular visitor to Criccieth with her daughters, one of whom was my Mum, Mary Sophia. Mary Thomas b. Portmadoc about 1840. Now Porthmadog. Died aged 73 on 04 May 1913. West Derby Union infirmary. Non-conformist believed Calvinist or Lutheran sympathies. Married Chas Koppermann in Liverpool 1873. kept boarding houses in Toxteth Park mainly for seafarers till the turn of the century Father John Thomas decd. before wedding, possible younger sister Frances who had daughter Ada. Popular family names Mary, Sophia, Ada, Eveline, Grace. Believe Criccieth was the holiday destination for Mary’s children. Help needed with Mary’s early history and family about whom nothing known Mike.
Mary Thomas b. Portmadoc about 1840. Now Porthmadog. Father John Thomas decd. before wedding, possible younger sister Frances who had daughter Ada. At first look I cannot find a Frances Thomas born before 1840 with a father John living in Caernarvonshire in the 1851 census. I'll keep looking.... many many Mary Thomas' !!!! SUSAN
