Hi Bill, Yes, you helped me greatly before with a marriage date I had been unable to find, as well as some other information about Coetmor. Thank you very much for calling the lady whose son lives in that home! I would absolutely love to meet with her if that is possible. Would she mind if you give me her phone number? Does she have e-mail? We will be in Dolwyddelan sometime between 10 and 13 September - we are still in the planning stage of our itinerary. Thank you so much, Michelle > From: WTJ831509@aol.com > To: WLS-CAERNARFONSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [CAE] RE: Caernarfon Record Office > > Hi Michelle > We have been in contact before. Hi Michelle We have been in contact before. Coetmor is still a working farm, and the lady who once farmed it is a member of the Dolwyddelan Historical Society. Her son now owns the farm. I have been on the phone to her and she said that the old house is the one her son is living in, and when you come over if you like, she will be more than happy to meet you. Regards Bill Jones
Michelle, Here's a mill that was built at coetmor: http://www.herts-scouts.net/index/coetmor If you type coetmor into your search window you will find lots of information. There was someone searching CALDWALDER a few years ago. I remember her first name being Betty, but don't remember her last name or if she is still on list. This was before CAE and AGY had their own lists. Good luck. Thanks to everyone for the information and advice. A few months ago I received lots of help from this list regarding the family in Dolwyddelan I am researching. They lived at Coetmor (sometimes written as Coytmor). Our direct line is through David Owen, born in 1797. He immigrated to Wisconsin, US in 1848. His parents were Owen Morris or Maurice (died 1809) and Margaret Jones. Owen Morris' parents were Maurice ap Robert (died 1787) and Jane. Maurice ap Robert's parents were Robert Cadwalader (1739) and Margery Maurice. It appears that the house is known better for the descendants of Maurice ap Robert's brother, Cadwalader Roberts (died 1772). The names Cadwalader, Robert and Owen appear often through the generations as both given names and surnames. I have looked through the microfilmed parish records from Salt Lake City and have the census records. Does anyone know if Coetmor is still standing? I would really love to see it. I have a historical map of the area, so I have a rough idea of where the home would be, but no up-to-date map yet. Thanks, Michelle Missouri, USA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
I have the following marriage certificate that wasn't thr one I was looking for 5 June 1843 - Robert Roberts - labourer - residing Maes y ge? han (father Hugh Roberts - collier) to Mary Jones residing Pendu (father Richard Jones - stone mason) - both of full age - at the Cathedral church of Bangor. If anyone would like this please contact me at elvery.chambers@bigpond.com & I will send it snail mail. Elvery Perth, Western Australia
The difficulty with the Conwy Valley area, that includes Dolwyddelan and Llanrwst, is that it is the borderland between two historic counties. Dolwyddelan is in Caernarfonshire and Llanrwst is mainly in Denbighshire. Dolwyddelan records are likely to be in the Caernarfon Records Office but Llanrwst records are likely to be in the Rhuthin Records Office about 50 miles distant. If you are mainly interested in parish registers and census returns an alternative would be to use Conwy Library Archive Access Service, where you can find microfiche PRs & census returns for Dolwyddelan (and other Conwy Valley Caernarfonshire parishes) in Llandudno library and for Llanrwst (and other Denbighshire CV parishes) three miles down the road in Colwyn Bay Library. Bishop's Transcripts (copies of parish registers), census returns, wills, tithe returns and many other documents for the whole of Wales can be found in the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. If you are short of research time the National Library might be the best port of call, rather than a local repository. Who are you planning to research on your visit? List members may be able to help with some of the queries and enable you to spare some research time whilst you are here. Dear Listers, I have been instructed by a new member of the Gwynedd FHS to write to the List offering a death certificate to someone researching the family of the above. The certificate is for a JANE LEWIS who died, aged 11 years, at Ebenezer Village ( Now called Deiniolen) in the parish of Llanddeiniolen on the 27th September, 1890. Her father's name was THOMAS LEWIS, Slate Quarrier and the death was reported by her grandfather John Hughes. There is, however, one anomaly which I have come across: On the Llandinorwig Parish Burial Register, the name of the young girl was ELLEN LEWIS and not JANE as the IGI and the Death Certificate states. Everything else indicates that it refers to the same person i.e. the age of 11 years, the surname and the burial date was October 2nd 1890. Anyone wishing to claim this certificate can contact me on giving particulars of their relationship to the deceased. Yours truly, T Meirion Hughes.
Dear Michelle The Caernarfon Record office is the best place for the Dolwyddelan census. I am sure if you contacted the Dolwyddelan Historical society, they have many more records of the village. Have you a name for the houses you are looking for? Also the persons you are trying to find, someone may be able to help. Regards Bill Jones

Michelle, It's a great office. Everyone is so helpful. Make sure to call ahead as Jane suggests. Reserve a microfiche machine, as they get taken up quickly. Have a wonderful trip. Hello, My husband and I will be vacationing in Britain in September and plan to spend a couple days visiting old family homes, archives, etc. Most of our family came from Anglesey, so I am fairly new to research in Caernarfonshire. I was hoping that someone could verify for me whether or not the Caernarfon Record Office is the place we need to visit. Our family primarily came from Dolwyddelan, with some branches in Llanrwst (I'd be looking at records prior to 1850). Are there any other repositories that I should visit? Thanks for the help, Michelle Price Missouri, USA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi, The Cope Directory for 1933 has been completed and is now available at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wlsccaer/ Regards, Keith.
Hi List, Gwynedd FHS has published two books of Pentir MIs, Pentir Non-Denominational and Pentir St Cedol. I have been told that the two people that I am looking for {Glyn Williams died 27 May 1966 and Hugh R Williams died 4 November 1971}are buried in the second graveyard when approached through the village of Pentir. Is anyone able to tell me which book I need to buy? Happy burrowing, Raymond Basingstoke, Hampshire
