Hi Bill Just a thought.... A few years back when visiting the Archives in Llangefni, Anglesey, I copied various Hughes marriages from the 'Marriages Notice Bk' It appears to work like the Banns would. It does not cover all of Anglesey but I have entries for Holyhead amongst them. Is it possible that your Owen Jones would have had to record notice in his own parish? I have notes that these notices started from at least 1837 and have copied enteries as late as 1912. This is a long shot but as the books are in date order it might be worth a try. Sorry I cannot offer to search for you. Jude Many thanks I think the best bet is to contact teh incumbent at Llanllechid Church, thanks to all for help on this one. Bill Conventional???....family research????.... never! There will be a nightmare of a search. I had a quick dabble with the BMD entries trying to see if an entry would scream out at me but it looks like you may have a challenge on your hands! Searching for Maggie or Margaret of even Margaret Ann certificate will cause problems as which name was she actually registered under??!! What you may try to do is request a search at the GRO whith what are called "checkable" entries. But other than the method you are doing already there is not much else you can do. Writing to the incumbent of the church or searching _www.freebmd.org.uk_ (http://www.freebmd.org.uk) are other options which I think have already been offered as possible avenues to try. Good luck with the search! Jude
Hi Bill, Best of luck with your hunting for ancestors. Cheers, Jill
Hi, News snippets from the Carnarvon & Denbigh Herald for 1899 have now been added to the "News Room" & "Traders' Obituaries," which can be found in the Miscellaneous Section at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wlsccaer/ Regards, Keith.
Hi Bill, I've just got some records open in fromt of me at the moment, looking at MORRIS in Llanllechid, that's a bit of a coincidence? The person I'm looking for is James MORRIS-GABRIEL, b. cir 1845, or James Morris GABRIEL, but I was looking through MORRIS just in case? Do you have any links to GABRIEL at all, Bill? This is the batch no for marriages , but not the years you want-- Llanllechid M096111 1813-1837 Cheers, Jill, Brisbane.
Jill Sadly no Morris connection to LLanllechid. My ancestors were travelling through, so to speak, and they were Jones when they were in Llanllechid! Wouldn't you know it!! Owen Jones was born on Anglesey, moved to Bethesda, married Margaret and they spent the rest of their years at Rhyd Ddu.They are buried in Beddgelert. Thanks for looking though.Bill >From: "jmglover" <jmglover@tpg.com.au> >Reply-To: wls-caernarfonshire@rootsweb.com >To: <wls-caernarfonshire@rootsweb.com> >Subject: Re: [CAE] Marraige in LlANLLECHID >Date: Sat, 16 Sep 2006 23:48:44 +1000 > >Hi Bill, > I've just got some records open in fromt of me at the moment, >looking at MORRIS in Llanllechid, that's a bit of a coincidence? Thanks for the advice Jude. I have no birth certificate yet for Owen and Margaret's daughter Margaret Ann. That's my task for today! - back to Ancestry !! Is it conventional wisdom to search the GRO Marriage index for matching numbers in the relevant quarters and year? That's how I've been trying to do it, dont expect there's an easier way! Bill Are you able to have sufficient information with regard to the children to request birth certificates? If you can see the birth certs this may provide a clue with regard to identity of the mother. Jude
Hi, If I were you I would write to the incumbant of the Llanllechid parish and give him the details for looking up the entry for you and offer a donation to the Church. It has worked for me! T. It has to be said that I am not certain it is there, but according to the staff at Caernarfon Archives. the parish register for the period I am looking for is still in the church itself. I did not think to ask whether anyone has transcribned them, or if there is any way to have a look-up done in the Llanllechid Marriages. I am hoping that someone on this list can help. Owen Jones born Holyhead ca 1856-8 married to Margaret born in Bethesda ca 1850. They lived at Rhyd Ddu in Caernarvonshire on the 1891 Census and 1901 Census. They had a child in 1880 ergo I am looking for a marriage between 1870 and 1880 probably. I am assuming that its a good bet, that becasue Margaret came from Bethesda she would have been married at aLLanllechid Church or else at one of the chapels in the area. They were not married in Betws Garmon nor in Beddgelert, which are the placeswherre their children were born. I have had no success with teh GRO Index on line, wihtout a surname for Margaret it doesnt seem possible to get a match. Any help gratefully accepted! Hello everyone, I've just joined the list, I'm helping a friend with the above family. I'm searching for the birth of James MORRIS-GABRIEL, or he may have William as a first name also, before the James. The parents are unknown at this stage, but we believe there were 4 brothers also. James came to Australia and married in 1874. One of the brother's went to Canada. The MORRIS-GABRIEL became Morris GABRIEL here in Aus. (William) James was said to be born at Bangor, Bethesda, Wales 24-5-1845, we don't know where that date has come from. Could someone help me with a birth please, or perhaps a census look-up for this family in 1851/61. Many thanks and ,-._|\ best wishes, / Oz \ jill , brisbane. \_,--.x/ jmglover@tpg.com.au v
Hello Jill The closest that I could come up with was a family in Llanllechid (Bethesda) which I'll send to you as an attachment to see what you think. Regards Maggi (Blythin)
Hi Les Nice to hear from you again. Peter stayed with this family several times and his mother always said they were Aunt Uncle and cousins . We are trying to work out the relationship hence my rather desperate letter. Hi to anyone who lived in Dolgarrog many years ago. We are looking for a family member who had a small holding near the Llanrwst Road. near Dolgarrog. My husband used to visit as a child and he is now 70 so anyone around that age might remember, if they were living near at that time. There were 3 children a boy PETER WILLIAMS he would be about 70 now. and twin girls one we think called Rose. The mother and father were JACK WILLIAMS and POLLY WILLIAMS. They had a few cattle and poultry and he worked in the Aluminium works. I know this is a one in a million chance but stranger things have happened in my geealogy research. If you can help at all we should love to har from you, Peter and Joan Williams New Zealand
