    2. Frank Lake
    3. Dear List, I have just joined this list having traced my father's cousin Arthur BIRDSALL (1895 - 1970) from Manchester last known date there 1954 to Llandudno. According to his death certificate he committed suicide 8 June 1970 at Craig-y-Don?, Llandudno. There was an inquest by the North Caernarvonshire Coroner on 2 July 1970. I assume the Coroner's records are not available but that the inquest may have been reported in the local newspaper(s). Would someone help me by advising which papers covered the area at that time or identify another source of a report of his death. Many thanks, Frank - Pennsylvania

    1. STRAYS IN CARDIGANSHIRE, WALES .......Part One

    3. Hi All, This past couple of nights I have been browsing some Welsh records and I came across this criminal register "CARDIGANSHIRE CONSTABULARY REGISTER OF CRIMINALS 1899 - 1933" and noticed that there were lots of strays, http://www.llgc.org.uk/ so I started jotting them down not realising quite how many there were when I started!! But I started so I had to finish.................I have only noted the ones that were born outside Wales, my knowledge of Welsh place names was not great enough to decide if the person was from the county of Cardiganshire or not, but I did recognise the non-Welsh place names, so here you have them..........for quite a few of the years there are "mug shots" and they are VERY interesting photographs too, for some reason a lot of them show the men with their hands crossed over their chest - I have no idea why (any ideas on that one?). In the later years there are no photographs but lots of personal information, such as place of birth, age, scars and tattoos, height, etc and of course the criminal record. These crimes range from such as stealing rabbits, clothes, horsehair (!!), even combination drawers (!!!) to such things as embezzlement. Also I note that the symbol @ seems to mean alias in those far off times, nothing to do with the email addresses we are so familiar with today. I have just noted names and places, no other information, but if you find one of "your" names in this list of strays then it really will be worth trawling through the pages. Unfortunately I didn't find any of mine, but I really wish I had, if only to put some "meat on the bones" of one of my lot. 3. Thanks very much Dewi, I should have mentioned in my post - I discovered Reg's site last year and found it to be an absolute godsend. However, you have now made me realise that I need to email him and thank him for the wonderful job he is doing. If no-one minds, I would like to add my ringing endorsement of this incredible resource. I found my ancestor, John Mark's paperwork at the National Maritime Museum, discovered he had a brother, found crew lists and agreements, and the crowning glory: got his captain's logs from the Newfoundland Maritime History Archive. A treasure trove of information, all from getting my ancestor's registration number on www.welshmariners.org.uk Cheers! 2. Hi Alwyn and Jonathan and everyone else. I have been interested in Jonathan's ancestor, Evan GRIFFITH, because I feel there is a possibility that he is also an ancestor of mine. (A brother of my G-g-grandfather). Here is the record of the person I believe to be 'my' Evan GRIFFITH on the 1881. 3. Hi Alwyn, Thanks for the info! Jan has been intouch, and we're trying to sort out if we're related or not. I was wondering if you have the household entry for Evan Griffith in 1871 when you say he is lodging with Ellis Jones in Llanrug, if so could you send it to me please? I'm not sure where Jane Jones was born. Has anyone got any opinions on how to understand two census entries of the same family which list the same mother's birth place as two different places: "Caernarvon Llanfihangel Penant" in 1901, or "Anglesey Llanfihangel" in 1891? 3. Hello List, I'm sorry if this is duplicated.with Gwynedd Roots web but I'm getting desperate. I'm trying to find members of the ROBERTS Family who lived at 55 ALEXANDRA Road Llandudno in 1910. The tenant was Daniel Jones but it was owned by SARAH ANN ROBERTS. I'm hoping that she is related to my family line. My Grandfather EVAN ROBERTS b 1880 Nevin lived there with wife Emily and son Robert Roberts. Robert Roberts was actually born at Mount Pleasant in1909 which was owned by DOCTOR WHITE. I presume a lying in house. The family moved to WIND STREET just by Mount Pleasance in1910. From then to Liverpool where it seems that family contact to Wales slowly disappeared. I have my family line going back to ROBERT RICHARDS who married SHONET ROBERTS in 1794 LLANGWNADLE. There are dozens of 'my Roberts'in my tree but unfortunately I only have contact with two other cousins neither living in Wales. Regards Kathy ROBERTS,HUGHES Carnarvonshire

    3. Dear Lists Thank you one and all to the many, many people who have sent me information re my two queries yesterday, I believe I have answered you all personally, if not I apologise. I have been sent some scanned Immigration Passenger lists too, so this has been wonderful even though I am not 100% sure this Henry POVALL found in New York in the 1880 census is mine, but I can't find him in the UK in 1881 so it's a trail I am going to follow. Below is Lis' reply to my Ancestry.com question and it seems to sum up pretty much what you get for your money. Some people were not aware that Ancestry.co.uk have a pay per view of £6 which allows you to look at 20 records. Once again, MANY MANY thanks for all your help, ROOTSWEB mailing lists really are the greatest, and I'm sorry if this is filling up the email boxes, but I thought the Ancestry.com question was one that others wanted answers to, and also to let everybody know that I don't require any more searches on my behalf at the moment - but when I do I will know where to come to first!! 3. Hi Does anybody on these lists know answers to the following questions please......... If I subscribe to Ancestry.com.uk for either an annual fee, a quarterly fee or a pay-per-view fee does this give me access to UK census records ONLY - no others?? I have been to both the UK page and the American (home) one.........now it seems to be (and I may be wrong here) that the American annual fee gives you access to EVERYTHING.........though of course it is far more expensive :( and they don't have the quarterly or pay per view option either. I have been for a good scout around both pages today, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.............looking forward as always to your knowledgeable replies. 3. Hi to all, Does anybody on any of my Rootsweb lists have access to Immigration and Passenger Lists on Genealogy.com? I am looking for Henry POVALL arriving somewhere between 1870 and 1880 (when he shows up on LDS New York census) - I am "almost" sure he is mine. Thanks and Regards Barbara
