Funeral services were held Friday December 1st at Martyr's Chapel, City Point with Rev Woodrow H PACE officiating. Rev Lon PEARSON served as reader, Marilyn ORTNER was organist and Rita KUCHENBERGER led the congregational singing. Burial was in Spaulding cemetery. Pall bearers were Don GRUTZIK, Dan JEPSON, Jim SCHONKE, Austin DIX, Guy DUPEE and John PEASLEE. Military rites were conducted by Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas Post 153 American Legion of Pittsville. John was born November 2, 1918 in City Point to John and Louise (WISNOWSKI)GRUTZIK. He was educated at Bautch School in City Point. John served in World War II from March 1944-March 1946 in the Navy Seabees and was in Iwo Jima. He married Virginia BENTZLER on October 18, 1947 at St Lawrence Catholic church in Wisconsin Rapids. He was self-employed in moss harvesting, pulping, and owned and operated Grutzik Cranberry Marsh. In 1975 they sold the marsh and in 1985 they moved to Neillsville. John was a member of Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas Post 153 American Legion of Pittsville and a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Neillsville. John is survived by his wife, Virginia (BENTZLER) GRUTZIK of Neillsville; two sons, James (Sarah) GRUTZIK of Wisconsin Rapids and Jack (Kathy) GRUTZIK of Black River Falls; two daughters, Judy SCHONKE of Stevens Point and Joan (David) DIX of City Point; one brother, Felix (Lena) GRUTZIK of City Point; four sisters, Gertrude LEHNER of Nekoosa, Isabelle (Kenneth) FOLLMAR of Saratoga, CA, Connie (Herb) JEPSON of City Point and Louise (Bud) BISCHEL of LaCrosse; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Julia SOWATZKE; one brother, Joseph GRUTZIK; and his parents. Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
