Funeral services were held Thursday Feb 15th at the United Church of Christ, Pittsville, with Rev Nancy CARR officiating. Burial was in Mound Cemetery with grandchildren and nephews serving as pallbearers. Josephine Mary GARDNER was born January 23, 1911 in Laab Austria to Michael D. and Lucia (VICENA) STEFFEK. She came to the United States in 1911 with her parents. Josephine married Kenneth R GARDNER September 21, 1935 at the home of her parents in the Town of Cary. After marriage they farmed in the Town of Dexter. Kenneth died July 16, 1985. Josephine was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, needlepoint and traveling. She was a member of the United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aid, Order of the Eastern Star Rainbow Chapter 87 of Wisconsin Rapids, Past Worthy matron of Golden Rod Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Pittsville Homemakers and the Pittsville Senior Citizens Club. She is survived by one son, Frank GARDNER of Pittsville; three daughters, Audrey (David) WITTENBERG of Wisconsin Rapids, Josephine GARDNER of Wisconsin Rapids and Karen JOHNSON of Hopkins, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Kenny and Mike GARDNER and Mark and Sara WITTENBERG; one great-grandson, David R. WITTENBERG; one siter, Sophia BAYER of Wauwatosa; two brothers, Steve (Dorothy) STEFFEK of Arpin and Mike (VIRGINIA) STEFFEK of New Auburn. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband and one sister. Memorials have been designated to the United Church of Christ, Pittsville. Buchanan Funeral Home assisted the family. Joan M.
