Wi Obits Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/WoodObits/320 Surname: ANDREW, CANNING, FARMER, RABLIN ------------------------- John ANDREW Obit taken from the Wood County Reporter, Volume 43, Number 22, Thursday, 17 May 1900, Page 1 John ANDREW, 1835-1900 At his home in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, May 15, 1900, occurred the death of John ANDREW, in the 64th year of his age. The immediate cause of death was congestion of the lungs and for the past three weeks he had been sick in bed, and little hope was entertained for his recovery, due to the general breaking down in his health and strength for the past year. He was born in OH, Nov 18, 1835. When he was a year old his parents removed to IN where he resided 18 years. He came to Elk Grove, WI, when he was 19 years old and the following year, he married Miss Jane RABLIN. They removed to Grand Rapids in 1858 where they have since resided. In the early days, Mr ANDREW follwoed the prevailing occupation in this section of logging and lumbering, but of late years he has devoted his attention to the cultivation of cranberries, making quite a success of that business. He leaves a wife and three children, one son, Ernest, who resides in this city, and two daughters, Mrs T B FARMER of Minneapolis and Mrs C J CANNING of Webster, SD. Mr ANDREW belonged to that stock of American citizens whose sterling worth and Hardy manhood will be admired as long as this country has a history. They peopled a wilderness and overcame the obstacles always to be encountered in a new country. Their joys were Arcadian and their friendships more sincere and hospitable than is possible in a thickly populated country and a busy, crowding, commercial age like the present one. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church this afternoon.
