Wi Obits Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/WoodObits/319 Surname: BURNS, REGAN, SHEPHARD ------------------------- Thomas Burns Obit taken from the Wood County Reporter, Volume 43, Number 22, Thursday, 17 May 1900, P1 Thomas BURNS, 1827-1900 Died at his home near Biron, Monday May 14th, Thomas BURNS, aged 73 years and about 3 months. The funeral took place from the Catholic church in this city Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev VanROOSMAELEN. The death of Mr BURNS removes another of the old-time and highly respected citizens of this community. Born in Ireland in 1827, he came to this county in 1847 and settled for a short time in MA, but in 1849 he was seized, like many others with the western fever, and came on to WI, locating the same year at Grand Rapids, where he has since made his home and reared his family. He was married October 22, 1849, to Johanna REGAN and if he had lived another year, they would have enjoyed a half century of married life. He had been in poor health for the past year, but the immediate cause of his death was blood poisoning. He accidentally ran the tines of a pitch fork into his foot May 3rd, and the injury developed into blood poisoning, his last illness being very painful. The children had all married and left home. Those now living are Mrs W C SHEPHARD, Batavia, IL, R E BURNS, Minneapolis, MN, A H BURNS and B F BURNS, Kalispell, MT, and W H BURNS, Green Bay, WI.
