Wi Obits Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/WoodObits/298 Surname: EMERY, YONSTAN ------------------------- Peter YONSTAN Death taken from The Marshfield Times, Friday June 9, 1893, Page 1 Assassinated in His Own Home Peter YONSTAN, a young married man of the Town of Saratoga, residing on the ten Mile Creek, was shot down by an unknown assassin while enjoying the comforts of his home last Friday evening, soon after dark. He was sitting at the window playing an accordian when the deadly shot was fired from the outside. Death was almost instantaneous. Officers are trying to find out and apprehend the assassin. Later advices report that CH EMERY has been lodged in jail on suspicion. He was YONSTAN's nearest neighbor and it was alleged that he had made threats against him. A gun with one empty barrel was found in Emery's possession, the wad being identical in size to the one found near the body of YONSTAN. There is a great deal of mystery surrounding the tragedy. YONSTAN was sitting in his house in the evening before an open window when some unknown person fired from the outside killing him instantly. The assassin then fled and escaped in the darkness. No date has yet been set for the examination of EMERY. The sheriff is also working on another clue. YONSTAN was a young man and had not long ago been married. His wife left him some time ago, owing to the treatment she had been subjected to. The wife's father was first arrested on suspicion, but he proved an alibi and was discharged. YONSTAN had had frequent quarrels with his neighbors, and it is supposed that the assassination was the outcome of one of these misunderstandings.
