Jack was born in 1911 in Marion and moved to Pittsville with his family after high school. He worked in the drug store there with his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Art SMITH Sr. He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 1934, working for Rennebohm's Pharmacy on the Square in Madison both before and after graduation. Jack moved to Pittsville "temporarily" to take over the drug store when his brother-in-law, Art SMITH Sr, met with an untimely death in 1935. He married Martha CASEY in November 1935, and they made Pittsville (and the drug store) their home for 63 years. Jack was a charter member of the Pittsville Lions Club, a member of St Joachim Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was, over the years, a staunch supporter of the Pee Wee, Pittsville High School and City Baseball Leagues, as well as all the high school sports. He also was a loyal fan of the Wisconsin Badgers, Packers, Brewers and Bucks. Jack trained many youngsters in Pittsville to deliver the area and state newspapers, thus teaching responsibility, accountability with money, and persistence over a 64-year span. The final 23 years, he supervised his sons, Bernard and Marshall, in the delivery of the Marshfield News-Herald, much to the delight of the Pittsville customers. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha (nee CASEY); his children, Jean (Daniel) Laughlin HENIZ, of Milwaukee; Mary (Tag) LAUGHLIN HOBERT, of Hartland; Rosanne LAUGHLIN, of Wauwatosa; John (Judy) LAUGHLIN, DDS, of Ellsworth; Marshall LAUGHLIN, of Hartland, and Bernard LAUGHLIN, of Hartland. He is further survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his nephews, John SMITH, DDS, of Marshfield; Art SMITH, of Pittsville, and William (Dolores) EDWARDS, of Menomonie. He will be missed by many other relatives and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brothers (Marshall and Carl) and his sisters (Ruth Smith and Margaret Edwards). A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3pm Friday, May 25, 2001, at St Joachim Catholic Church, 5312 3rd Ave, Pittsville. Burial will be in St Joachim Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the Mass. Memorials appreciated to St Joachim Church or the Pittsville Lions Club.
