Alyce Lorraine CLINE was born September 27, 1921, in Pittsville, to Laurence and Margaret (CUSHMAN) LEISER. She graduated from Pittsville High School in 1939, and was married to Thomas James CLINE September 16, 1940 in Dubuque Iowa. They lived in Rockford IL until 1942, then moving to Portage. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and the Singspirations, a women’s sextet. She taught Sunday School and was one of the first women to serve as a church council person at Bethlehem Lutheran. Alyce was also a member of the Women of E. L. C. A., the Portage Country Club, the Portage Country Club Auxiliary, and the Women’s Civic League. Survivors include her husband, Tom; three daughters, Gail (Ted) ALGIERS, Karen (Bill) FISHER, and Sandy HENNEY; a sister, Lauretta (Gilbert) GAST; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gordon LEISER, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday August 30, 2001 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage, with Rev. Richard Collier officiating. Burial followed in Silver Lake cemetery. Pflantz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
