SCHEURER, 78, of Pittsville, died at his home Friday, September 7, 2001. Emil was born Dec 25, 1922 in Pittsville to Emil and Elizabeth (KRUEGER) SCHEURER. He graduated from Pittsville High School in 1941. After high school he worked for his uncle at ABEL and BACH in Milwaukee. In 1943 he enlisted in the Air Force, then transferred to the US Army driving jeep for a General, serving three years in France and Germany. Emil played saxophone in the 71st Infantry Division Band. Emil married Helen HOKAMP on January 22, 1949 at St. Joachim’s in Pittsville, and was a lifelong resident of Pittsville. He was employed by the Nekoosa Port Edwards Nursery for 13 years, then in 1964 he took over Little Bull Falls Bar from his parents, operating it until 1979. Emil also worked at Wood County Parks from 1968 and retired as park superintendant in 1986. After retirement Emil enjoyed his children and grandchildren, woodworking, gardening, golfing, attending athletic events of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Joachim’s church and its Holy Name Society, Pittsville Lions, Pittsville American Legion Post 153, Yellow River Ducks Unlimited and past member of the State of Wisconsin Parks Department. Survivors include his wife, Helen; one son, Michael (Debra) SCHEURER Sr.; three daughters, Karen (Ronald) Parker Jr., Constance (Chuck) SOPER) and Tami (Dan) HAHN; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vernell and Carolyn and one grandson, Mark SCHEURER. Funeral services were held at St. Joachim’s Catholic church, Pittsville, with Rev. Donald Berg and Rev. Jude Ndugbu co-officating. Burial was in St. Joachim’s Parish cemetery at Pittsville. His grandchildren and Godchildren served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Burt IVERSON, Pete ORGEL, Glen HARTSOUGH, Kingdon SOPER, and John BECKER. Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas Post 153 American Legion, Pittsville, conducted military rites. Buchanan Funeral Home served the family. The family will designate memorials to the World War II Memorial at the Highground.
