Hello Listers, Saw this information listed and wanted to pass along a recent experience. I visited Ashland, WI, earlier this month in search of my ROWLEY, O'BRIEN and HODKINSON families. Part of that trip was a visit to the Ashland Historical Society, who recently relocated into new quarters. They were very helpful in finding some Rowleys who were listed in their collection of Ashland City Directories. I'm not sure about the entire range of directories, but believe it to be fairly complete from 1900 up to about 1940. If you want to write them for help, their address is; The Ashland Historical Society 509 West Main Street Ashland, WI 54806 (715) 682-4911 While there, I asked and their annual memberships are $10. Membership is not required to research the materials. Good hunting!

Curious to know if others had ancestors who relocated from Wood County to Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin. Was it just our family moving up in late 1880s? Or was the area a comparative "land of opportunity", thereby attracting many to the North? If you have an Ashland link, you may find it helpful to know about the Ashland City Directories for 1888-1893 online at Ancestry.com. The information is in the "new databases" section, which is currently accessible at no charge: http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4861.htm

Here is the page listing Dave Engel's books: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/history/river.htm That one is not included. Are you sure he wrote it? When I corresponded with Mr Engel he did not include this one on his list, therefore, I will verify with him and post if it is one of his. Second, my copies of Dave Engel's books were purchased at the South Wood County Museum, which Sandy mailed to me. Their URL is: http://www.swch-museum.com/ Finally, The Little Professor BookStore is where I purchase my WI and WI county books. There are various locations across the USA and also on-line at: http://hometown.aol.com/lpbchome/website/home.html There is a search engine and you can find the nearest location to you. Hope this helps. R/S MAK > From: ENDOS@aol.com > Resent-Sender: WIWOOD-L-request@rootsweb.com > > Hello again everyone! > I need some information on how to obtain a book by Dave Engel.
