    1. Re: [WIWOOD] Can you help me download just one branch from a large gedcom file to my FamilyTree Maker data?
    2. Harry R. Miller
    3. Cathy, the way I would do it, would be to create a new Gedcom file from the separate Family Tree file you just made. Pick only the persons you want to use. Then input the new Gedcom file to your regular file and manipulate the data inside that one to place it where you want. 3. Good morning list. I have found some information that applies to my family tree but it is within a very large gedcom file. I managed to download the gedcom to a separate Family Tree file, but how do I incorporate just the information I want into my Family Tree Maker file? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cathy

    3. Mel, I just found this email and realized that I forgot to pass it on to all our Mailing List people who are looking for their Scandanavian ancestors... It was good of you to pass it on, and someday, when I get time, I will have to check for my elusive JOHNSON... There are a couple of chapters devoted to Iowa and Wisconsin... Also, I put it up on our Ethnic pages at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/WLHN/cultural/ethnic.html More later, and thank again... Wi Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Wood/882 Surname: PEASLEE, SMITH ------------------------- Thank you so much for all the information on the PEASLEE families, what a pot of gold. The PEASLEE I am looking for is Joe PEASLEE, married to Martha or Malash. He was the father of Harriett PEASLIE who married my great grandfather James SMITH 2nd of July 1906, in Pittsville, Wood Co, WI. I realize that SMITH is pretty common and the last time I posted an inquery, someone told me to only put surnames. I am still pretty new at this! James father was Nelson SMITH and Mother was Sarah WOODFORD or WOODWARD. Nelson and Sarah SMITH's children: George b 1877 Glyde b Mar 1880 James (same as above) b Dec 1881 Hugh b Dec 1883 Maud b Nov 1885 Harry b Mar 1889 Lester b Feb 1891 Delos b Mar 1894 Garet b Sept 1896 I would love to find any information on any of the family. James divorced Harriett we think, and then married my great grandmother Audrey LAVELL KNOWLTON the 30th of Nov 1911 in Tony, Rusk, WI. Thank you again for all your assistance and so promptly. Charyl

    1. [WIWOOD] LEARNING ABOUT GENEALOGY AND THE INTERNET
    2. MAK
    3. Don Litzer (Head of Adult Services McMillan Memorial Library 490 E. Grand Avenue Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494 (715) 423-1040) came up with a really concise handout entitled "LEARNING ABOUT GENEALOGY AND THE INTERNET". He has put it up on the internet for all of us to use as a reference, and I have also included the link on our HELP ME I AM NEW pages... You can check it out at: http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/programs/genealogyconnectat.html Also, it is time to update your bookmarks... Don pointed out that our old site for WoodCoWI Historical Newspapers was terribily out of date: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/HeartOWi/h-news.htm Instead of trying to update, all the information is provided in a wonderful format at: http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/ref/local_genealogy.html Be sure to visit it and change your bookmarks, as the old site is sure to disappear, and all our pages will point to Don's new URL ... A great big thank you to Don Litzer, McMillan Memorial Library, and their wonderful staff in their continuous efforts to promote FREE on-line genealogy. The main link to McMillan Memorial Library is at: http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/ and if you haven't been there in awhile, be sure to go browse and be sure to send your kudos... Again, thanks Don, keep up the great job!!! Those of us whose only access to your wonderful library is through cyberspace appreciate it greatly. Was the Wood County Reporter a newspaper or a business directory. And do you know what years it was available? Thanks, Sue Sue, You ask good questions that others will probably also ask, so I'll answer your question on the mailing list. The Wood County Reporter was a newspaper, but it had a feature called the business directory in early issues. The Feb 17, 1858 issue, and many successive issues, carried a "business directory" on the back page (page 4) of local businessmen who paid the annual insertion fee so their business card would be printed with each issue in this space. McMillan Library's genealogy web page lists the South Wood County newspapers preserved on microfilm at http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/ref/local_genealogy.html The Feb 17, 1858 issue that I indexed and placed in the Wood County WI rootsweb archives with MAK's help is presently the earliest Wood County Reporter preserved on microfilm, but occasionally additional issues of old newspapers are found and then microfilmed by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. If you ever come across some old newspapers while cleaning an attic, old trunk, etc, PLEASE contact your state's historical society before throwing them away. I recently was handed some 1970's vintage Nekoosa Port Edwards newspapers, and they will soon be preservation microfilmed and returned to their owner. Don't let newspapers end up on the dust heap of time before making sure they are preserved...future genealogists will thank you. Joan M.
