Posted on: Wood Co. Wi Bios Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/WoodBios/10145 Surname: SCHNITZLER ------------------------- City indexes attract worldwide interest By Thom Gerretsen Of the News-Herald - Marshfield News-Herald dtd 3 May 2001 The names of Marshfield residents and families who are featured in the city's two recent history books are attracting interest from others throughout the world. "We've posted indexes from the two books on the Internet," Don Schnitzler, coordinator of the now-defunct Marshfield History Project, told the Kiwanis Club Wednesday. "We've gotten all kinds of responses from people throughout the United States, as well as Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and South America." Schnitzler said after the meeting that about 485 people have e-mailed him since the indexes from the two "Marshfield Story" books were posted on US Gen, a genealogical Web site. "A lot of the e-mails were questions about particular families," he said. "Some just said 'thank you.'" Schnitzler said he received inquiries about Marshfield's earliest residents and families. Schnitzler and other members of the history project produced the first book in 1997 to commemorate Marshfield's 125th anniversary. The second book was published last December. Together, they contain hundreds of personal histories submitted by families, businesses and community institutions. The second volume also has more than 1,000 profiles of local residents published in the former Marshfield Daily News and the News-Herald between 1927 and 1930. Both books are still available, but Schnitzler said there is only a handful of copies of the original book remaining. The books are available at the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. office, Thimbleberry Books and Four Seasons Antique Mall. Although there might be enough material still available, Schnitzler said the Marshfield History Project would not be revived to produce a third book. "If anybody's interested in our history, they should contact the Historic Preservation Association or the North Wood County Historical Society. Both are excellent organizations," he said.
