He has been a resident of the town of Plover for over half a century and was well honored and respected by all, as was shown by the large number of friends that came to show the last rights of respect at the funeral which was held Saturday March 7th, at the Maine school house, Rev. S DURLEE of the church of the United Brethern, of which he had been a devoted member for over twenty four years, officiating. He had been a consecrated christian over forty years. He was the last member of his father's family. His faithful wife and one son preceded him to the other shore a number of years ago. He leaves one son and six daughters to mourn their loss as follows: Ira GEEMES of Woodlawn, WA, Mrs MITCHER of Leola, WI, Mrs. CLEMENTS of Deadwood, Dakota, Mrs CAREY of Stevens Point, WI, Mrs WALTERS, Mrs SIMONDS, and Mrs Nelson NEWBY of Plover, WI of which only the four last mentioned were able to attend the funeral. The church, the home and the world have met with a loss that is hard to replace but I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, right blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth. Yea sayeth the spirit that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow. Thanks to all who helped me find Grand Rapids and Nekoosa. Meredith
Nekoosa is located a few miles south of Port Edwards and Wisconsin Rapids. It is in Wood County. The McMillian library in Wisconsin Rapids Have the census records. The Nekoosa library has a genealogy section. Both libraries would be able to help. Grandma
Grand Rapids became Wisconsin Rapids. In the 1920 census it covers Enumeration Districts (ED's) 184-195. Nekoosa is located in the town of Port Edwards. It was originally known as Whitney's Rapids. (copied from the Wood Co. site at Rootsweb) I don't see it in the index of towns in the ancestry.com 1920 census. It is very close to Wisconsin Rapids, so I think it may be included in the ED's above. Hello All, The Chicago Park District Administration Building recently moved to new office space, and during the move, *160 old documents were found* that had been used to prove residency in the early 1900's. Many central WI settlers had ancestors with Chicago roots, or descendants who later went there for work, so this website might be of help to someone. The names with identifying information and instructions for claiming a document can be found at http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/press/58.cfm Newberry Library will receive any documents unclaimed by the first of the New Year. with best wishes, Joan M. I am researching my gg grandmother Deborah Cronkite, born in Holland approx.. 1820-1830. Her mother was also named Deborah. She married Nathan Hazelton, born 1821. They had a son Nathan, my great grandfather, born 1859 in New Jersey. The family is believed to be one of the first to settle in what is now Milladore, WI. Other possible children were Deborah Carolyn, Frederick, Joseph, George, and James. Deborah Cronkite/Hazelton died in childbirth. Nathan, her husband, died June 5, 1897, and is buried in Union Cemetery near Junction City and Milladore. I can't find a grave for Deborah. Perhaps she died in N. J. Are there any Cronkites in Wisconsin Rapids or Wood County that may be connected to Deborah in anyway?
