I believe that this is now Wisconsin Rapids, and may have been a part of Portage county at some point in time, but not sure when. I am the librarian for our local genealogy society, the Gogebic Range Genealogy Society. We maintain a web site, http://gogebicroots.org/ which is in the beginning stages, as the society formed just over a year ago. We cover local info. for Hurley, WI, as well as Gogebic County in MI. Any information that you can give me in guiding my search for the Robberts/Roberts family: birth, death, marriage, census, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I am new to research on-line, and know that there is info out there, but not really sure how to go about locating it! Thank you for any help that you can give to me. I don't see a connection at this point. Rose is certainly not a sibling of Melinda's - we have Melinda's father, Theophilus, being born about 1829 in Canada. So he is of the generation of Rose. Unfortunately, his past has proven quite difficult to follow, having learned his approximate age and place of birth from census records, we know nothing of his parents or siblings. Thanks for the good luck wishes and your help. It is always a help to get a reply, if not for "connecting" information, at least for the process of elimination. I should also mention that I have seen their name spelled both ways that are listed, but most often as "Gosline".

I found 22 Gosselin's listed in the death record index at Wood Cty. courthouse in Wisconsin Rapids. The dates range from 1888 to 1970. Next time I'll make sure I get there early and not when they're ready to close(!!)so I can look at the records. Hope I have helped, if not, Happy Hunting!

Do you have the parentage or siblings of Rose Delima Gosselin? My husband's great grandmother was Melinda Jane Gosline born to Theo and Elizabeth (Wells) Gosline in 1869. They lived in Clark County Wisconsin near Spencer. Theo and Elizabeth had 13 children and at the time of Elizabeth's death in 1914, only 5 survived. We do not have the names of all of her children and were wondering if perhaps Rose could have been one - or perhaps have been a sister to Theo? Do any of these names fit into your research? 3. Came accross this on another mailing list. For those researching German ancestory, this is an excellant source. http://www.genealogienetz.de/genealogy.html Among one of the nicest features is that the Emigration lists from Hamburg are indexed. You can find microfilm numbers for the filmed indexes starting in 1850 at the German Genealogy Site and go to the Emigration link. They also give a number of other sources to search for emigration records. I did try a search, but it was in German (grin)... R/S MAK __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Here is the info I have about Hannah M.(Dolan)Akey. It is from Elizabeth (White) Akey who was married to Lawrence Akey. Sad to say she has passed away. She did extensive research on Ethier,Akey/Atchey family. >From the 1923 "History of Wood County" Page 405 Hannah M.Akey, for many years the proprietor of the Akey Cafe in Wisconsin Rapids. She was born in Emily, Ontario, Canada, 13 Jan. 1863, daughter of James & Mary (Callahan) Dolan. Her father came from County Kilkenny, Ireland, born 1827 and came to America in 1842. Hannah married Eugene Akey, by which she had three children: Maude E. (Mrs. James Brockman), Ivah, who died at age 18 and Cleveland living at Port Edwards. In 1890 Mrs. Akey was left with three children and she established Akey's Cafe at 705 W. Grand Ave., which she continued to operate for 32 years, until March 1922. Mrs. Akey is a devout Catholic active in many church activities. She is a strong prohibitionist and suffragust, believing in equal rights. She was gratified when she could cast her first vote. (end) I have another article from Elizabeth which is three times longer than this. If you would like to have it let me know and I will send it too. I think it may be from the Newspaper in the Rapids, it doesn't say where she got it. Best regards, Shirley

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BROOKS, McINTYRE Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DGC.2ACI/1502 Message Board Post: Source: 1891 History of Clark & Jackson Co., WI pg. 372-373 ERWIN F. BROOKS, lumberman and contractor, and a farmer of section 8, township 24, 1 east, has 140 acres in the homestead farm and 160 acres of timber. He was born in the town of Eaton, Lorain County, Ohio, December 11, 1851, a son of Bartimeus and Elizabeth O. (Smith) Brooks. In his father's family were the following children: Alonzo E., Alva A., Henry, George W., Dan H., Erwin F. and Lettie, all of whom are living except Alva and Henry. During the first year of the Rebellion Alva entered Company A, Seventh Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and served two years and ten months, being in many battles, etc., when after a short sickness he died in a hospital at Memphis, TN . George also was in the service near the close of the war, being with Sherman in his march to the sea. William Henry died at the age of twenty-two years. The Brooks family came to Wisconsin in 1858, and first lived a year or more in Sparta, next for a time near La Crosse, and in March, 1860, removed to Clark County. Bartimeus BROOKS was born in the town of Dummerston, Windham County, VT, November 20, 1786. He had five brothers and two sisters, all natives of that State, and three of the brothers served the American cause in the war of 1812, --Jehiel, Bartimeus and Dan; and Hiram was in the Mexican war. Of this branch of the Brooks ancestry one came to Ohio and one to Kansas. Mrs. Elizabeth O. BROOKS was born November 22, 1809, in Morris County, NJ, and is still living. She had three brothers, but no sisters. In an early day her father moved with his family from New Jersey to Cayuga County, NY. December 25, 1882, Erwin F. Brooks married Minnie McINTRYE, and has had the following children: Elsie M., born June 8, 1884; Mabel G., June 13, 1886; and Raymond, January 26, 1888. Mr. Bartimeus BROOKS purchased the present homestead, which originally comprised 400 acres, and commenced clearing, and continued the hard work of pioneering it up to the time of his death, July 2, 1875, since which time his son, the subject of this sketch, has carried forward the good work. The farm is in good cultivation, thoroughly equipped with fine farm buildings. The sister, Miss Electa, and the mother are with him on the homestead. Of the brothers, Alonzo resides on section 9, same township, while Dan lives in Wood County, and George is in California. Erwin's grandfather, a farmer, was one of the early pioneers near Montreal. Mitchell Arquette's children were: John, who is living in the town of Richfield, Wood County; Mary, now the wife of George Dawes, in Necedah, Juneau County, this State. There are cases of longevity in the ancestry of our subject. Bartimeus, Alva, Hiram and Mary Brooks all lived to be over eighty-eight years of age. Submitted by: <SJSchwarze@aol.com>
