To all of you that are planning trips for genealogical research in the summer of 2002, be sure to check and see what the state and county(s) you are visiting has to offer. My good friend (see below) reminded me about our tradition of Wisconsin Dairyfest, when I had to refer a query to her about it... She was quick to point out that indeed, I have been gone from Wisconsin too long, when I don't remember such a marvelous event as that. So, I did a quick search at http://www.yahoo.com for dairyfest and wanted to share the results. There were almost 200 hits, so am only citing WoodCoWI events. (So be sure to check it out for other events, such as the Chocolate Fest May 17, 2002 - May 19, 2002 Burlington, WI, USA) Marshfield hosted Dairyfest last year over Memorial Day Weekend and has an event calandar you should check prior to traveling, (not yet posted there): http://www.marshfieldskatepark.com/Events.htm - however, there are pictures of last year - with quilts and old cars, too... http://ci.marshfield.wi.us/album/dairyfest.htm Another wonderful site with a ton of Wisconsin Events is at: http://www.festivals.com/~finder/mapquery.cfm?country=USA&state=WI It includes the Marshfield Dairyfest, events/ craft sale, details at: http://www.festivals.com/~finder/display_eventdetails.cfm?EID=USWIM51220 And, a few weeks before is the Art Fair May 12, 2002 Marshfield, WI, USA - More than 100 selected artists from throughout the Midwest exhibit and sell their creations. Local talent entertainment throughout the day. Location: Marshfield Senior High Fieldhouse 1401 Becker Road Marshfield also is hosting Dance the Weekend Away in Marshfield! February 08, 2002 - February 10, 2002 Marshfield, WI, USA - Dance your feet off to 12 Bands as they play 42 hours of great polka, blues, variety, bluegrass and rock 'n roll music at four great venues throughout the city. Location: Marshfield 700 S. Central Ave - Admission and Parking: $10 per day on Friday and Saturday, $8.00 on Sunday includes all locations. Free parking. How about the Northern Aire Jazz Festival - June 29, 2002 Nekoosa, WI, USA - produces one of the finest collections of live jazz entertainment that you will ever hear in one place. It's a spectacular Midwest jazz festival held outdoors at beautiful Lake Arrowhead Championship Golf Course, near Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Its location is conveniently central to Minneapolis - St. Paul, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, the Fox Valley, MI UP and IA. URL is: http://www.northernairejazzfestival.com/ I am excited to have found this site, as I normally go home in May and stay through Memorial Day... Now, I might have to stay through summer (grin) - Almost makes me wonder why I left until snow starts to fall. Hey, I even found a THINK-WISCONSIN.com site and if you click on Central Wisconsin, http://www.thinkwisconsin.com/ will find: Marshfield: http://www.thinkwisconsin.com/cvbs/marshfield.php Wisconsin Rapids: http://www.thinkwisconsin.com/cvbs/wrapids.php Stevens Point: http://www.thinkwisconsin.com/cvbs/spoint.php and Wausau: http://www.thinkwisconsin.com/cvbs/wcentral.php Here is yet another central Wisconsin Calendar with a ton of events: http://www.centralwisconsin.org/calendar.html And here is another calandar for dairyland events: http://www.visitdairyland.com/Events/events.html Or the cute cow contest in Marshfield: http://www.gospelcom.net/csn/nutty/000429.htm Or cow contestants in Marshfield: http://www.countryvoice.com/weirdapril00.htm How about Art and Craft show search: http://www.craftfair.com/esearch/searchformevent.cfm And last but not least, the midwest FAIR calandar: http://www.midwestartfairs.com/Fair%20Calendar.html OK, OK, I am going to sneak a blurb in on Strawberry Festival my all time favorite event: http://www.chicagomag.com/saf/getaways01/getawaywi.htm and a few others that have nothing to do with central Wisconsin: http://www.festivalusa.com/states/wisfest.htm OK OK OK - It is NOT genealogy (I can hear some of the knitpickers complaining - hit the delete key then) - but we can't always be doing genealogical research, and it is a great way to endorse the state(s) and county(s) traditions that you have come to know and love... Also, this will be a neat addition to our pages. And to show good faith: here is the link to bookmark containing all the URLS above: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/WisConsin/wi-festivals.html Join in the fun and send me your links for other events DIRECT at makkuehl@yahoo.com (PLEASE not on the SC or WI-Admin list - WoodCoWI list is OK). I hope other Wisconsin counties, and other states will share what is going on in their neck of the woods, as many of us will be traveling over the summer... R/S MAK ps Please pass along as appropriate to other mailing lists... Feel free to add your own Wisconsin Events and URLs... >> You *have* been gone from WI too long, Marcia!! DairyFest is the annual June event in WI where the Future Farmers of America clubs put on a *wonderful* breakfast, often on a farm, from 5 to 10am on a Saturday morning for $4-6 a person...lots of pancakes, real WI maple syrup, real WI cranberry juice, lots of cheese, milk, real butter and breakfast sausage, and ice cream (Rapids holds theirs in a mall--ewww!) I try to attend at least one a year, and think it is a wonderful treat. Cows and a dairy barn with an honest to goodness dairy breakfast and contented moos in the background in the countryside are a big attraction <VBG> even if it does mean parking in a sometimes muddy newly mown hay field. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Surnames: HARVIE, La BRECHE, TAYLOR, WEBB Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DGC.2ACI/1540 Message Board Post: Adams County Press [Friendship, Adams Co. Wisconsin], Saturday August 19, 1911, Page 1 Column 2 Grand Rapids Wis.; Aug. 12--Judge Charles Morton WEBB, aged 78, for twenty-eight years judge of the seventh judicial circuit, died here today after a long illness. He had served longer than any other circuit judge in the state. His well-known wish to die in the harness as judge of the court he so long presided over, was fulfilled. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. T. H. TAYLOR, Grand Rapids, and Mrs. W. S. HARVIE, Oshkosh. The judge refused a seat on the supreme court bench offered by Gov. Upham, whom the judge had sought to defeat for the nomination. In 1904 he was a cnadidate for the United States Senate, but was defeated. Judge WEBB was of Scotch extraction. He was born in Towanda, Pennsylvania, in 1833. He received a common school education, studied law and was admitted to the bar. He came to Wisconsin in 1857, settled in Waushara county as a young lawyer, but went to Grand Rapids in 1858. Mr. WEBB successfully held the following offices: District Attorney of Wood County, state senator, city attorney of Grand Rapids, register of the land office at Deadwood, and finally circuit judge. Mr. WEBB served in the civil war as an officer in the twelfth Wisconsin volunteers. He lived a simple life, for years doing his own chores and tending the furnace. One of his favorite rules was that all who do mental work should spend part of their time in physical labor. His friends wanted to get his photograph but he refused to have it taken, except in a family group. For years he was the crony of an old French cobbler, J. D. La BRECHE, whose little shop he delighted to visit and discuss old times with Frenchmen. --Milwaukee Journal Judge WEBB was well known to many Adams county people, our county having been for a number of years in his circuit court before being transferred to Judge FOWLER's circuit. His visits here when holding court gained him a large acquaintance and Adams County will learn with regret the passing of this honorable man.
