Thanks to all who answered my inquiry. Prior to Marshfield becoming a town in 1872, people who lived in that area must have had some sort of address or town affiliation. What is the best bet for where it would be? Would it have been Marathon County or Wood County? What town might have been the closest? I read every line of the 1860 census records and didn't find either of the families I am looking for. I didn't find them in 1870 either, but I may have been looking in the wrong place. All I have to go on is a death record that says he was born in Marshfield, Wood, WI and family history that says that is where the couple met. I am grasping at straws I suppose, but that is what we do best I think. Jo Hogle

I am looking for the 1860 and 1870 census records for Marshfield, Wisconsin. I understand it is in Wood County, but I reviewed the entire 1860 census on Ancestry.com and did not find Marshfield at all. The 1870 does not list Marshfield and I realize it might be part of a grouping of towns based in the Post Office (Centralia or Saratoga for example) Can anyone tell me where in the census records I might find Marshfield in 1860 and 1870? Sophia Pataska was the sister of my great grandmother Laura Millard. As I understand it Sophia and Michael (not sure if that was actually his first name) LaSarge had four daughters: Vittand, Armena, Caroline and Philamen. Philamen married Victor Bourgard (unsure of spelling of his last name) and they had Delia, Emolena, Sophia, Laura, Frank, Edward, and twins, Mike and Victor. My great grandmother, Laura married Burrows Millard and they had Ada, Evelyn, Viola, Chester and Roy. Ada was my grandmother. The family were originally French Canadian homestead pioneers and settled in Port Edwards which was originally called Frenchtown, then White City (because the paper mill provided whitewash paint for all the houses) and eventually Port Edwards. I did not know any Pataska's, however, my mother might be able to tell you something more. Please respond if you get this. Thanks, Deb
