She was 16 at the time. The Blakely's son, Albert, 15 years her senior, fell in love with her, but Isabella would not allow them to marry, saying Gladness was too young. The young couple did marry in Sep of 1914. In January of 1916, Gladness died in childbirth. My mother never even saw a picture of her mother, Gladness. Although my mom is gone now, my promise to her is that I will locate a picture of Gladness. I have tried descendants of collateral lines, hoping a family album might exist with wedding pictures, perhaps. No luck. I am hoping that school pictures might exist. I am sure Isabella would have insisted on schooling for Gladness. Family lore has it that Isabella herself was a college graduate, though I have yet to pin that down. Where might I write for school records? Any other ideas would be welcome, too. I know very little about Gladness, though I have found a good deal on her father from his Civil War Records. I do have her birth, marriage and death certificates. Donna Cross Clermont FL
