Since the time of the Apostles swine have been popularly supposed to be the abiding place of unclean spirits, and probably to this day devils continue to seize them in the form of trichinze spiralis, etc. Perhaps that was what was the matter with this particular porker, and maybe Jove, having a grudge against the evil spirit, tried his hand with a bolt, with remarkable success; as the hog, though killed dead as a door nail, was not disfigured any, thereby proving that it wasn’t the hog particularly that was aimed at by the inhabitant thereof.
