The Omro fire department came to help. The Oshkosh Fire Dept. put an engine on a rail car and sent it out, but by that time it was not needed. There is only a small mention in the book Winneconne, History's Crossing Place. There are no surviving Winneconne newspapers from that time period, but the Omro and Oshkosh newspapers covered the story.
