    3. Thank you all for your confidence in me, and I'll do my best to see that Winnebago grows and grows! Now, I'm off to work on a few more things for the site and the Town of Black Wolf on the 1880 farm directory. Much more coming soon on the St. John's Lutheran Church thanks to Kurt Miller. 3. Well if one cemetery yesterday and one today was not enough, Janet Eiler has done it again. One more! This one is called Lakeview Cemetery, but I had them listed wrong on the cemeteries list. This one is also aka Boom Bay Cemetery and St. Peter's, so I've listed it under St. Peter's/Lakeview Cemetery. http://www.jansdigs.com/Winnebago/index.html Enjoy and thanks again Janet! 3. Hi Kathy, Yes, it is sad, and I would have continued on after many emails from researchers asking me to stay, however the State Coordinator will not allow me to come back. So, I will continue on with the site on another server and project. All the information will remain and I will do my best to continue adding to the site. I am currently working on the 1880 farm directory of all the towns, and Janet Eiler is working on more cemeteries. Anything that anyone wants left on the WIGenWeb, can stay, I have said that before. It's unfortunate, but, it has been taken out of my hands. I plan to continue on to the best of my ability. My apologies for the inconvenience. 2. Janet Eiler
    3. Kathy, I agree too that the differences could have been resolved. I hoped Tina would have let Jan come back. Sounds like it was more of a personal difference that had nothing to do with the project itself. As a contributor to Jan Cortez's website though, I started contributing to her website on AHGP before Winnebago Rootsweb even had one to speak of. I had all my cemetery info to share with the world and didn't know where to go with it until I met up with Jan. Through her, from the beginning, my donations to the genealogy world has been made possible. Through my efforts and Jan's, I choose to stay with Jan! In response to an earlier response about Ancestry taking over Rootsweb and making it a pay site? One never knows what can happen in today's computer world. Have you visited LDS lately? Searching through the LDS's 1880 Census, there is a link to view the image on Ancestry for a fee.....Ancestry is getting their hands into a lot of the free websites and they could all be in danger of belonging to Ancestry soon! You know what they say about the price being right....! One thing I am pretty sure of is that if this ever happens to any server that Jan has our Winnebago info on....she will move our info to guarantee it's remains on a free access website to all of us! I will donate to the cause if necessary if she has to buy her own domain! JAN! Keep up the great work! I am with you all the way! 3. This is so sad. Once again researchers are thwarted because of Differences of opinion. It is sad that people would pull their material from the WIGenWeb pages since the USGenWeb project was meant to be the place that researchers could depend on for the best information. Can't we do some compromising here? I would think that material had been submitted to the Winnebago page of the WIGenWeb project because of the project itself, not because of who was maintaining the web page at any particular time. If Jan had never had anything to do with the web page, would submitters not still have submitted their information? Is it fair to the project to pull information because of personality conflicts? I have worked with both Tina and Jan and have found them both extremely helpful and friendly. I believe this is exactly the type of thing that happened with the USGenWeb census projects and the reason that there are now 2 projects competing against each other instead of working together. As a researcher myself, I know that a split like this is helpful to no one and only serves to alienate people. Please think of what is happening to the project instead of personal feelings. 2. Hello Janet. I am a native of Winnebago Ccounty, Winneconne-Omro twps. I have done some thorough research on a pioneer cemetary-Goggins-Oakhill in Omro Township. I would like to contribute what I have, if you are interested. There seems to be some special issues involved. Could I write to you directly before submitting on web-site? My husband and I have several ancestors buried in this cemetary. THX C.Costello

    3. Hi David, Actually names and dates are not copyrightable, but the format is. I have seen the copyright that you refer to, and always am real careful not to violate their copyright unless I receive a copy from the person who submitted it, and their permission to use it. As to the postcards, they should be fine to put on the site. Scan them and attach to an email for me and I will put them on the site. 1. Re: [WIWinneb'go] Winnebago County WIGenWeb Project site.
    2. Janet Eiler
    3. David, I have never seen this cemetery reading of Waukau done by the WI Genealogical Society. When my reading is complete, it will not be a duplicate of WI Gen Soc's. I am sure their reading is old......one of theirs I did see was from the 1960's/70's of Omro Union...many people have been buried there since and mine would be up-to-date to include gravestones that didn't exist when they did their reading. I am sure my format is also different from theirs. Through my ventures, I have also found a few errors in some of the old cemetery readings. I have also reread cemeteries in the Wolf River Twp area that are also in the famous Guyant Collection.....again, mine are different. When they read Wolf River Cemetery they did 2 rows and labeled them as one row. They also read one row from the north to south and the next was read south to north.....confused me at first until I figured it out what they did. I did my reading doing one actual row at a time and read them all the same way. My reading included all old stones, ones missed by previous readers, and all new stones. I am not afraid to crawl into overgrown shrubbery/bushes and fence lines to read a stone. There were times I came out of the cemetery looking like I tangled with a wild cat as I was all scratched and biten to pieces....LOL. My main purpose is to get the most acurrate info I can and to get out so people can access it for FREE! Our cemeteries hold a lot of info and sometimes it is the only evidence we have that our ancestors existed....as filing records wasn't law until October 1907. One cemetery has me totally confused as to how I want to do it. I have been to Sacred Heart Cemetery many many times and I just don't know how I want to do this one yet. You start out with two rows.......which is fine, but by the time you get to the end of the two rows.....they have formed into only one row.......I hate reading two rows as one but when they are crooked and flow into each other.....? I don't know how I am going to handle this one yet. 3. Janet, I have a multi-page hard copy listing for Waukau Cemetery that I got from the Wisconsin Genealogical Society. I don't have it in front of me, but I think there was a message stamped on it prohibiting copying unless it was for genealogical research. Let me check the message, and get back to you. If there is no prohibition about putting it on Jan's site, I will share the list. Also, I have some old "copyrighted" post card style photos of Oshkosh done in 1903. Aren't copyrights good for only 100 years? Can I put the photos on Jan's site also? David Griffith Janet Eiler wrote: >I agree. 3. Hi Kay, As to the rumors, I can't say. None of us can fortell the future. All I can say is, I hope that this will never be so. I think that it was disconcerting to many of us when a pay site took over RW, but I haven't heard any factual information leading me to believe that this might be in the works. I would hope that should this ever happen, that the County Coordinators would have copies of their sites and they could be uploaded elsewhere. We've all worked long and hard to contribute what we can. All I can say is that the info contributed to the Winnebago AHGP, as long as its in my hands will remain free. I have no intention of selling it, deleting it, or any other such things. I have copies of all of it. Let's think positive for our future! Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: "reitstuf" <reitstuf@wi.rr.com> > Will the info submitted to the WIGENWEB site remain free, or will it eventually be claimed by Ancestry.com and charged a fee to see? Now it's free, how about the future? I've been hearing rumors... I wonder if they're true or not? In fact, I've heard that the whole Rootsweb system might become a pay per view site...Any truth to that? > > Kay R

    3. FIRST OFF... do not think that I am writing from the position of ancestry/rootwebs administration because i am not NOT NOT... but, it is always good to remember that unless YOU are the one making the decisions about the website itself, there is never a guarantee that things will remain as they originally were stated, that they will remain free, or they will continue to forge in the direction as they were when you originally joined.... Goals change, environments change, people doing the administering change.... overall ideas change.... when new bits of information come available, things change and when media changes, then a LOT of things change.... Even if YOU YOURSELF control the website, there is a possibility that you might even change how that website looks and what the direction of the website will take..... ANYTHING is possible..... ----- Original Message ----- From: reitstuf To: WIWINNEB-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 12:52 PM Subject: [WIWinneb'go] WiGenWeb Will the info submitted to the WIGENWEB site remain free, or will it eventually be claimed by Ancestry.com and charged a fee to see? 3. I agree. Links on both of the web pages so we and future genealogists can easily find both sources of info. Valentine....I agree with your HIS and HERS....comment. I also thank everyone who is staying with Jan Cortez's site. She truly is a wonderful person to work with and I will continue to send all my cemetery walks to her at the http://www.jansdigs.com/Winnebago/index.html . I have had a very busy and hectic summer and had an engine blow out on one of our cars. Our second car is now back and I will be getting right on the cemetery walks...Zittau Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery is next to come as I had started it before the car problem arose. I also plan on getting either Waukau or Eureka (a lot of requests for these two) Cemetery done this summer.
